CPD Y Rhyl 1879: Club found guilty over flare-throwing incident

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 has been found guilty in relation to a flare-throwing incident at this season’s JD Welsh Cup semi-final clash with Caernarfon Town at Colwyn Bay.

The Cymru North club has released the following statement this evening:

“Following the conclusion of the Football Association of Wales disciplinary process, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 has been found guilty in relation to an incident during the JD Welsh Cup semi-final against Caernarfon Town FC held at Colwyn Bay on Sunday 8th of March 2026, where a flare was thrown onto the pitch from the spectator area behind the goal at the Rhyl segregated area.

“As a club, we want to make it absolutely clear that player, official and supporter welfare will always be our highest priority. Incidents of this nature create unnecessary risk to those attending the match and have serious consequences for the club as a whole.

“Supporter passion is a huge part of what makes our club special, and the backing we receive is something the players and management deeply value. However, actions that breach regulations can result in significant financial penalties for the club. At our level, every fine directly affects resources that would otherwise be invested into the football side of the club including supporting our management team in attracting and retaining the best possible players to represent Rhyl.

“We ask all supporters to continue backing the team in the outstanding way you do, but to do so responsibly and within the ground regulations. Your support can drive our club forward; poor decisions can hold us back.

“Thank you to everyone who supports the club with pride, passion and respect.”

The club did not reveal the punishment received, although such offences do often result in a heavy fine.
