Europe plan in place for CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 and CPD Y Rhyl 1879

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 are into the last four of the Welsh Cup and could qualify for Europe

The FAW will ask UEFA to grant special dispensation for CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 to compete in Europe should either of them win the Welsh Cup.

Tier 3 Ardal North West leaders Bangor and second-tier JD Cymru North club Rhyl both made the semi-finals of the national knockout last weekend with victories over higher league opposition.

Also through to the last four are Cymru Premier clubs Caernarfon Town and Flint Town United, making the latter stages of the competition an all-North Wales affair.

Speaking about the latest batch of UEFA Club Licensing applications, the FAW said today: “With Bangor City 1876 and Rhyl 1879 through to the semi-finals of the JD Welsh Cup, the FAW will be making an application to UEFA for club licensing dispensation for them to participate in European competition should one of the clubs lift the trophy.

“To qualify for Europe, both clubs would need to meet the minimum standards set by UEFA to be granted dispensation to participate in the UEFA Conference League for the 2026/27 season.”

Eleven of the 12 JD Cymru Premier clubs have submitted applications for a UEFA Men’s Club Licence for the 2026/2027 season.

In the Genero Adran Premier, the FAW has received applications from five of the eight clubs to apply for the UEFA Women’s Club Licence for the 2026/2027 season.

A UEFA Club Licence is required for qualifying clubs to participate in UEFA competitions.
