WELSH CUP QUARTER-FINAL DRAW: Tier 3 sides land Cymru Premier clubs in last 8 – Cofis v Bay is standout tie

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 have landed a home tie against Barry Town United in the last eight

With a record six North Wales clubs in the JD Welsh Cup quarter-final draw, tonight’s live event on S4C could never have been an anti-climax.

And what a treat it proved to be, with the standout tie surely the all-Cymru Premier clash between Caernarfon Town and Colwyn Bay.

Both South Wales sides left in the competition, Caerau Ely and Barry Town United, will have to make long journeys up north in their bid to make the semis.

Tier 3 heroes Bangor will host Cymru South side Ely, while Cymru Premier Barry face a tough visit to Cymru North hopefuls CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

As for Ardal North West stars Trearddur Bay, only the fifth Ynys Môn team in history to make the last eight, they will travel to Cymru Premier outfit Flint Town United,

There aren’t any no hopers left in the competition now, everyone has a chance and there’s a big opportunity for a new name to appear on the trophy.

Caernarfon Town v Colwyn Bay
