It’s Welsh Cup last 32 weekend! A look at all the ties involving North Wales clubs

It’s JD Welsh Cup weekend and we are down to the last 32.

There are 13 North Wales clubs remaining in the competition and some will play each other so a few will definitely exit the cup.

NORTH WALES LINKED TIES

Llandudno v Connah’s Quay Nomads (Friday, 7.45 pm)

What a belter to start off the weekend – unbeaten Cymru North leaders Llandudno against the very much in-form Cymru Premier high-flyers Nomads.
Perhaps the tie of the round and one where picking a winner is not an easy task.

SATURDAY TIES

CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 v Holywell Town

Tier 3 1876 put their season-long, 19-match undefeated run on the line against mighty Holywell, historic Welsh Cup semi-finalists back in 2013-14 and currently second in Cymru North with just one defeat on their record.
Free-scoring strikers Jamie Breese and Craig Lindfield can provide major headaches for the City back-line, but the hosts have the magic of Corrig McGonigle and evergreen Jamie Reed in their armoury.

Caernarfon Town v Penrhyncoch

Should be a comfortable assignment for Caernarfon, third in the Cymru Premier, versus the Cymru North’s bottom side Penrhyncoch, without a single league win in 12 attempts.

Dolgellau AA v Caerau Ely

Dolgellau are labelling this game the biggest in their history.
The Tier 3 Ardal North East side have never got as far as the Welsh Cup third round before.
Standing in their way are Caerau Ely, fifth in T2 Cymru South.

Flint Town United v Airbus UK

A close contender for tie of the round.
Cymru Premier Flint will welcome high-riding Cymru North side Airbus to the Essity Stadium.
Both sides have potential match-winners – Elliott Reeves is a guaranteed danger man for Flint with his excellent goals record, while Airbus top-scorer George Peers has been in fantastic form.

Glynneath Town v Trearddur Bay

The lowest-ranked side left in this season’s JD Welsh Cup are fifth tier Glynneath Town, who host third tier side Trearddur Bay on Saturday afternoon.
Glynneath currently sit seventh in the Neath & District League Premier Division – with plenty of games in hand over sides above them.
Trearddur Bay make the long trip down south off the back of four consecutive wins in league and cup. Campbell Harrison’s side currently sit fifth in the Ardal North West, while in the JD Welsh Cup they have so far beaten Llangefni Town, Berriew and Broughton United to reach Round Three for the second consecutive season – but they have never made it further.

Penrhiwceiber Rangers v Gresford Athletic

Testing tie for Cymru North strugglers Gresford away at third-tier Ardal South West outfit Penrhiwceiber, currently fourth and unbeaten in their division.

Porthmadog v Port Talbot Town

Tier 3 Ardal North West leaders Porthmadog entertain FAW Amateur Trophy holders Port Talbot Town of Tier 4 in a fascinating clash at Y Traeth.
The last time the two clubs met was back in season 2009/10 when both were in the Welsh Premier League.
Both clubs have therefore seen better days with Port now in the third-tier of Welsh football while the decline has been even more severe for the Steeltown club, now in the T4 South Wales Premier League Premier Division.
However, the two Ports are showing plenty of signs of being on the rise again and Saturday’s tie has the makings of a cracker.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 v Cwmbran Town

Cymru North hosts Rhyl 1879 welcome Tier 3 outfit Cwmbran Town, second in Ardal League South East, to the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
The Lilywhites have had a mixed start to their first campaign in Tier 2, but the prospect of making the last 16 of the Welsh Cup should prove a welcome distraction and incentive.
Nonetheless, a potential banana skin for the North Wales side against a club with an illustrious past.

Carmarthen Town v Colwyn Bay (LIVE ON S4C)

Talking of tricky tests, Colwyn Bay of the Cymru Premier also face one of those at Cymru South high-placers Carmarthen Town.
The fact this game has been chosen by Sgorio for a live broadcast gives a hint that an upset might be in the air.
Bay have shone brightly for much of their return campaign in the top flight thus far, though, and forwards Louis Robles and Jordan Davies are capable of giving the Old Gold plenty of trouble.
