We’re about to enter our 8th year – hope we’ve done some good

Why did I really start Grassroots North Wales in 2019?

Well, I couldn’t stand the way the newspaper industry was going – I’d given it 31 years and it was making me unwell, so I got out, with a little help from my ‘friends’.

I had to do something, writing about sport was mainly all I could do, so I went solo with my own website on North Wales sport.

The aim was never to be famous or make lots of money, it was purely to spend the rest of my life doing what I want to do.

And working to my own agenda, not the agenda of clowns.

But what I wanted more than anything was to celebrate North Wales sport, to get our very special sporting people more recognition for their achievements.

I know what it’s like to be unhappy, have a low opinion of myself, morale at rock bottom.

So, to help stop our sportspeople ever feeling like that, I wanted to highlight what they do, give them some spotlight, feel good about themselves. Just my little bit for them.

The best compliment I can ever hear is ‘you’ve put a smile on my face’ or ‘you’ve made my day’.…..I don’t want praise for what I do, just the knowledge I’m helping others is more than enough.

If I fail, I’m sorry. To be honest, some already get enough publicity and don’t need my help, but others do benefit from me boosting their profile. It’s those people I do it for….

How much longer do I go on? I don’t know, I may have to find other ways to make a living, but I hope whatever happens, Grassroots North Wales has done more good than harm.

Thank you so much to the photographers, writers, readers and correspondents who’ve helped me, each and every one of you.
