Cefn Albion’s new manager will be a familiar figure to Wrexham-area football fans.

Philly Hudson is the new man at the helm of the Ardal North East club following the departures of Jamie Hulse and Adam Galdo this week.

Hudson is no stranger to North Wales football having previously managed at Brymbo, Ruthin Town and Llay Welfare, as well as having stints in charge at English clubs Ashville and Woodchurch Athletic

He won silverware during a three-year stint with Brymbo, as well as lifting the NEWFA Challenge Cup in 2021-22 while at Ruthin, who he also guided two consecutive top-five finishes in Cymru North.

Hudson said: “I’m absolutely delighted to come onboard as manager at such a well supported community club with great ambitions. I had a couple of offers on the table but once I spoke to Tag and Chris about Cefn then I knew this was the best project for me and it was an easy decision.

“I have always admired the club even as an opposition manager in the past. Cefn has always had a reputation of being a well run club with a great backing in terms of supporters and I hope we can give them plenty to cheer about next season. I speak with Chris Parry regularly and over the last few years he’s been at the club, he has always spoke very highly of the community, the players, the coaches and the people behind the scenes.

“The club’s ambitions for the future align with my own and hopefully we can reach where we want to go. The hard work starts now including retaining the current group of players. There is a great squad of players here and if we can also add a few new faces then hopefully it can help us finish even higher up the table next season.

“Lastly I’d like to thank Tommy and Chris and the rest of the committee for giving me this opportunity. I’ve previously worked with Chris, so I know what to expect from him and what he and the club will expect from me. The sky is the limit for this club. Now it’s down to us to all pull in the same direction and bring success to match the work going on behind the scenes from all in the community. “

The departing Hulse took over as Albion manager at the start of thi season, with Galdo joining him as assistant in January 2026. The pair had previously worked together at other clubs.

Hulse and Galdo led the Cefners to a sixth-place finish in Ardal North East this term.
