What started out as a gloomy day for FC Queens Park has suddenly become much brighter!
After we reported earlier today about the club’s struggle to secure a Tier 3 licence needed for promotion, an agreement has now been reached which has put the Wrexham club in a much better position.
Recently refused the licence by the FAW First Instance Body, due largely to the fact their home ground Queensway Stadium could not accommodate 2.30 pm kick-off times on a Saturday, Freedom Leisure, the not-for-profit charitable trust that operates the ground, has now backed the football club’s needs.
FC Queens Park said tonight they are now in a position to appeal to the FAW against the licence being turned down. Other small issues also need to be resolved, but the club is confident these can be sorted out.
This season, the Park won seven trophies as a club, with the first team scooping the North East Wales League Division 1 title, Premier Cup and Horace Wynne Cup. They now hope to enter the third-tier Ardal Northern League next season.
The club said in a statement: “After what has been a challenging few weeks, we are delighted to say that everything required for FC Queens Park to compete in Tier 3 football is now in place.
“While we are still awaiting final confirmation, an agreement has now been reached and we’re hopeful of getting everything officially signed off very soon.
“Firstly, we just want to say a massive THANK YOU to our committee and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes throughout this whole process.
“A huge thank you as well to Freedom Leisure andLex FC for their cooperation and support in helping make this happen.
“And finally, thank you to EVERYONE who shared, commented, messaged, and supported our previous post. The support has been incredible and shows exactly what this football club means to our community. Bring on Tier 3 football – up the Park!”
