Knighton Town are one win away from returning to Tier 2 football for the first time since 1998-99.
The Powys side, in their first season back at Tier 3, clinched runners-up spot in Ardal North East on Saturday with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Llanrhaeadr.
The Robins will now meet Ardal North West second-place finishers Porthmadog in a play-off to compete in Cymru North next season.
Knighton were last in Tier 2 back in 1998-99 when the league was known in the Cymru Alliance.
They resigned mid-season and their record was expunged. Prior to that, they had spent six seasons in the CAL, finishing fourth in 1997-98.
Last season, Knighton were resounding winners of the T4 Central Wales South League, so have back-to-back promotions in their sights.
At Llanrhaeadr, their goals were scored by Sam Hoyle on 41 minutes and an Adam Farmer free kick after 73, Llan replying through Tommy Williams after 56.
Knighton were reduced to 10 men when 34-goal top scorer Luke Boundford was red-carded on 64 minutes, but the visitors still managed to pull off the victory needed to seal second spot.

Bow Street had to settle for fourth place after being held at home by Llanfair.

The final game of the 2025-26 Ardal North West season ended in victory for Llangefni.
Mo El-Arab struck first for Cefni on six minutes and Ashley Answorth’s 16th goal of the campaign – a top corner strike – made it 2-0 after 21.
Elgan Roberts halved the deficit on 73 minutes, but Town held on against a team they beat by the same score away back in September.
