Congratulations CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 – the 82nd team to win the national FAW Amateur Trophy.
The Ardal North West champions made it a silverware double at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth, with a chance of a treble to be completed when they take on Llanuwchllyn in the Ardal North League Cup Final on May 16 at Y Traeth, Porthmadog.
A crowd of 674 saw 1876 defeat Ardal South West outfit Pontardawe to lift the Amateur Trophy for the first time.
City started well, Cai Owen picking out top-marksman Corrig McGonigle on the right side of the box, but his firm strike from a tight angle was saved by Nat Osborne.
The North Wales contenders took the lead on 12 minutes. Josh Carey cut in frm the right and his cross into the bix was headed home by Declan McManus.
Unfortunately, the goal also involved McManus and Pontardawe’s Steffan Jenkins needing treatment after a clash of heads.
Both had to leave the field, the City striker replaced by Jamie Reed.
Only a magnificent reaction save from Carl Jones denied the Swansea-area side an equaliser before the break.
It remained 2-0 until midway through the second half. McGonigle’s free kick came back off the bar and Adam Long showed strength and determination to head in the rebound.
Bangor were now more comfortable and went three-up on 79 minutes when Carey rounded off a fine run by slipping the ball to Tommy Creamer, who calmly slotted home.
Pont kept trying and to their credit pulled a goal back through sub Jake Barrow in the 89th minute, but nothing could take the gloss off another special day in Bangor City 1876’s short history.
