A place in the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy quarter-finals is at stake when Llanrwst United host CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 at Gwydir Park on Saturday afternoon, December 20.

With Llangefni Town, Llannefydd, Penmaenmawr Phoenix and Prestatyn Town already through to the last eight, either the Rwsters or the Citizens will become the fifth North Wales team to make the 2025-26 quarters.

Saturday brings the sixth meeting of the sides, with Llanrwst being the first team ever to defeat 1876 in their debut season of 2019-20.

Bangor, then in the Tier 5 Gwynedd League, had won all 13 matches before running into the T3 Conwy Valley outfit in November.

Matt Mullender, Sam Roberts, Callum Parry and a visitors’ own goal secured the win for the Rwsters, Benn Lundstram with a consolation for the blues.

Bangor have won the subsequent four clashes with the Gwydir Park club, recording 3-1 and 2-0 league victories in the 2022-23 season, when the Citizens earned promotion to the Tier 2 Cymru North via a play-off.

This season, under their new name CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876, Michael Johnston’s side have beaten United 5-0 in the Ardal North West and 3-0 away in a League Cup tussle.

Bangor are on an amazing run this season of 24 matches undefeated in all competitions.

They lead Ardal North West and are into the quarter-finals of the FAW Welsh Cup. Of their 24 matches, they have won 22 and drawn 2, netting 100 goals exactly.

Llanrwst are no mugs, though. Leighton Griffiths’ side have a decent record in the FAW Amateur Trophy, having reached the semi-final stage last season. As aforementioned, they also knocked 1876 out of the 2019-20 competition, which was never completed due to the pandemic.

The Rwsters are currently ninth in Ardal North West.

Let battle commence.
