Late Spruce save proves crucial as Llangefni Town remain unbeaten

Katie Spruce produced an amazing late save to keep it at 0-0

NORTH WALES COAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE – APRIL 5

Llangefni Town 0
CPD Pwllheli 0

Although they dropped their first points of the season Llangefni remain in pole position at the North Wales Coast League summit.

With two matches apiece remaining, Cefni are on 40 points, three ahead of Kinmel Bay with 37.

Llangefni have yet to play Kinmel Bay at home next Sunday, April 12 and CPDM Henllan away on the 19th.

As well as travelling to Cefni, Kinmel also have a home match versus Trearddur Bay scheduled for April 19.

It could still go right down to the wire, depending on the result at Llangefni next weekend.

On Sunday, the leaders welcomed Pwllheli, a team with which they have enjoyed some magnificent battles.

Apart from the 2023-24 Betty Pickering Cup Final, which Cefni won 5-1, no more than a single goal had separated the sides in nine previous meetings. Pwllheli had won six of those, Llangefni two, with one draw.

Pwll were on a run of seven unbeaten heading to Ynys Môn, so a close encounter was on the cards.

And so it proved, with very few clear chances for either side and defences on top.

The best chance came in the 80th minute when Sian Moore found Magi Hughes, who was in on goal but home keeper Katie Spruce was fast off her line, made herself big and produced a stupendous save.

No wonder Llangefni have conceded only four league goals in 14 matches!

So now it’s on to next weekend and Llangefni Town v Kinmel Bay at Cae Bob Parry. Back in November, Cefni won convincingly 3-0 at Y Morfa, so what lies ahead in the return?
