ARDAL NORTH EAST: Alex Williams treble secures Cefn Albion derby joy, great win for Llangollen, leaders triumph

Long-serving Alex Williams was a hat-trick hero for Albion as they produced a superb performance to claim the local bragging rights at Afoneitha Road.

Williams, 31, is one of the most prolific marksmen in the Cefners’ relatively short history, with 113 goals on his record dating back to 2019-20, but he also netted 24 times in the quadruple-winning debut campaign of 2014-15.

So that accounts for 137 and there is likely to be quite a few more – perhaps someone out there can help fill in the gaps?

Penycae, who had won 3-2 at Albion back in November, were going for a double on Saturday and made a flying start when Dominic Deacon gave them a first-minute lead.

However, Alex Williams turned the game around by half time, scoring on 35 and 45+2 minutes, Kien Morris and Mark Richards with the assists.

And it was a 1-2-3 for Williams when he completed his treble from the penalty spot on 64 minutes, making it 16 goals for the current season.

Williams was brilliant all afternoon, leading the line superbly and producing a triple strike to turn the game on its head, two from open play which included a screamer into the top corner,

Lex XI 1 Knighton Town 3

George Baxter gave bottom side Lex a surprise 13th minute lead at home to second-place Knighton, but the Powys men soon levelled through top-scorer Luke Boundford and Connor Bird made it 2-1 to the visitors at the break.

Ten-man Lex fought hard in the second half, but Kieran Dovey sealed it for Town with a 78th minute third.

Llandrindod Wells 0 Bow Street 1

Callum Page bagged the only goal on the half-hour to clinch the points for Bow.

Llanrhaeadr 1 Llangollen Town 2

Just a second win of the campaign for next-to-bottom Llangollen – and what a great result it was.

Without a victory since whipping Lex XI 4-1 at the end of November, the Tower Field side broke their away duck for the season with a fine show at the Recreation Field.

William Cooke was the Llangollen hero, scoring after 38 and 63 minutes to make it 10 club goals in 2025-26.

Garmon Evans’ 91st minute reply from the penalty spot was too late to save Llanrhaeadr.

CPD Llanuwchllyn 2 CPD Rhos Aelwyd 0

Meilir Williams’ 33rd goal of the season early in the second half helped make sure Llanuwchllyn maintained their five-point lead at the summit.

Veteran defender Dafydd Griffith nudged the hosts in front on 37 minutes with his first goal for the club via an Ilan Hughes assist.

Radnor Valley 3 Kerry 1

Radnor built upon last week’s excellent victory at Cefn Albion to record a 3-1 success over Kerry in wet and blustery conditions at The Bypass.

The hosts opened the scoring after five minutes, following a flowing move down the right flank, which concluded with Joey Price converting Jack Clarke’s low cross at the far post.

The Lambs levelled after 21 minutes when Ed Clarke played in Steffan Rogers to neatly finish past Otto Jones in the home goal.

The New Radnor men had to wait until the 77th minute to regain the lead when Alfie Hardwick was on hand at the near post to finish a pull-back from fellow substitute Charlie Beaumont on the byline.

The Goats doubled their advantage within 60 seconds of the restart when Clarke converted a Price cross after the home team had broken down the left flank following the restart.

Valley extended their winning run to four matches in the league.

Corwen 1 Builth Wells 1

James Rainbird put Corwen ahead, but also had a penalty saved by Kham Stevention which denied the hosts a two-goal lead.

Ryan Powell levelled for Builth early in the second period.
