NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup: Holders out as Llandyrnog, Bethesda Rovers, Llanfairpwll and Henllan reach last four

Llandyrnog match-winner Alfie Harrison

NWCFA JUNIOR CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER FINALS – NOVEMBER 7

CPD Mountain Rangers 1 (A Williams 18)
Llandyrnog United 2 (Appleby 3, Harrison 90+1)

Revenge for Llandyrnog over the team which beat them in last season’s Junior Cup Final.
On this occasion it was Sion Morris’ North Wales Coast East Division One side which emerged victorious to stretch their 100 percent record this term to 13 matches.
Dyrny travelled to Cae Gors with a point to prove following last April’s 2-1 cup final loss at Conwy – and they came away with a dramatic last-gasp victory.
The visitors made the perfect start when Alfie Harrison delivered a superb ball for Luke Appleby to tap home from six yards after just three minutes.
The hosts equalised on 18 through an Aeron Williams header from a Cai Owen corner, but Dyrny continued to create chances.
Josh Griffiths went close twice, while Harrison saw a header fly agonisingly over just before the break.
The second half was a physical battle, with United enjoying the better chances but struggling to find the finishing touch.
Holders Rangers offered little in the way of clear-cut opportunities, and it always felt like Dyrny were the more likely to find a winner.
There was drama in the 90th minute when Rangers’ Cai Owen was red-carded, then soon after Harrison struck to seal a memorable 2–1 victory, a fitting moment of redemption after his sending-off in last season’s final.

Standout Llandyrnog performances came from Ifan Clayton, who was superb at right-back, and Nathan Rose, who dominated in the air and covered every blade of grass.
Man of the Match – Alex Webster, who battled brilliantly despite being on the receiving end of some very physical challenges, earning the award from the opposition.

CPD Henllan 4 CPD Llanerchymedd 1

Henllan made sure there will be two North Wales Coast East League clubs in the semi-finals after a convincing triumph over Anglesey outfit Llanerchymedd.
A Harri Owen own goal on 10 minutes gave the Vale of Clwyd hosts the lead before a Harry Payne penalty after 17 made it 2-0.
Three minutes before the break, Jordan Rowlands gave Medd hope by making it 2-1 via a Jay Jones assist.
It stayed that way until the 72nd minute, when Owen Davies bagged a crucial goal for Henllan.
And deep into stoppage time, substitute Harry Stubbs added a fourth to make ultra-sure of the home team’s progression.

Llanfairpwll 3 Llysfaen 1

Llanfairpwll will fly the flag alone for Anglesey in the semis after a fine win over this season’s chief cup giant-killing stars Llysfaen.
The North Wales Coast East Division One visitors, who achieved fairytale results in the Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy this season, struck first on 24 minutes when top-scorer Mike Chapman set up Steven Collins for the opener.
Daniel Burns levelled the tie after 40 minutes from a Jake Turnbull assist.
Midway through the second half, Carwyn Roberts put the islanders 2-1 up and Turnbull sealed Pwll’s passage in the 87th minute.

Rhuddlan Town 4 Bethesda Rovers 6

A 10-goal thriller saw Bethesda Rovers advance to the last four at the expense of Rhuddlan Town.
Pesda stormed into a 6-1 lead by the hour before a late rally from the hosts made it a closer outcome than was expected at one stage.
Top-scorer Herbie Hofsteede struck twice for Rovers in the first half before Jake Jones replied to get Rhuddlan back in it before the break.
After the restart the visitors raced clear, a Joshua Edwards own goal making it 3-1 before Jordan Pritchard bagged a quick brace, then Kian Hughes added a sixth.
Town netted three times in the final 10 minutes, chief marksman Liam Bowers with a double and Reece Chamberlain adding another, but the Ogwen side had done enough to end victorious.
