Attendance: 50 (headcount)
A ruthless Dolgellau AA crushed Cefn Albion at The Muga to reignite their Ardal North East play-off push.
The 7-1 scoreline looked unlikely, particularly when Cefn took the lead midway through the first half.
A frenzy in the Dolgellau box saw the referee blow for a foul, just as the hosts were attempting to shoot. Alex Williams made no mistake from the spot, sending goalkeeper Tyler Andrews the wrong way.
The visitors responded well and took the game to their hosts. Paul Lewis used his height advantage to meet an inviting cross in the box, only to see a weak header easily gathered by goalkeeper Mark Richards. Moments later, Osian Morris sprung the offside trap and unselfishly squared for teammate Gerwyn Williams, who rolled the ball in to equalise.
Cefn almost re-took the lead when Kien Morris connected with Thomas Broadhurst’s pinpoint cross, but his diving header went inches over the bar. That was as good as it got for Cefn. Moments later, a Cefn defender sliced a cross into his own net before Dolgellau’s Jamie Jones could make contact. Jones took credit for the goal.
Gerwyn Williams saw a close range header saved by the outstretched boot of Richards, but the frontman expertly picked his spot when he sent a 25 yard free kick into the net – his 30th goal of the season.
Dolgellau added a fourth right on half time. Lewis went down with an ankle injury, but Aaron Young played the advantage and his fancy footwork bamboozled Richards, allowing him to scamper round the shot stopper and slot the ball into an empty net.
Five minutes after the restart, the visitors scored from another free kick. This time it was the turn of Ioan Roberts to blast the ball in from the edge of the area.
Substitute Ifan Jones nodded a sixth goal from a corner, before fellow sub William Gruffydd picked a defender’s pocket to run clear and coolly place a seventh into the bottom corner.
Cefn will hope for a much different result when the reverse fixture is played in a week’s time.
