NORTH WALES COAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE: Cefni go nap to make it eight straight wins, Trearddur Bay end 10-match losing run with fine victory

NORTH WALES COAST WOMEN’S LEAGUE – SUNDAY, NOV 30

Llangefni Town 5 (F Owen 9, 34, Brown 13, 49, George 17)
CPD Llanystumdwy 0

Eight straight league wins for Llangefni Town and just three goals conceded – halfway through their campaign and the title dream and promotion is starting to look very strong.
Today Dan Gregg’s side comfortably beat an in-form Llanystumdwy outfit who only seven days earlier knocked out Pwllheli to reach the Welsh Cup last 16 for the first time in their history, a mighty tie with Adran Premier Swansea City awaiting.
Cefni’s own Welsh Cup adventure ended in heartbreak with a penalties loss to Tier 2 Llandudno, but Town had not been defeated over 90 minutes for 10 matches heading into Sunday’s test at Cae Bob Parry.
A fast start for the hosts saw them go 3-0 up inside the first 17 minutes. The first came from a ‘Stumdwy goal kick, when Ffion Owen won the ball, and her early effort from 30 yards out flew into the top left corner giving Sara Lacey no chance.
The second came just four minutes later. A cross from deep was controlled well on the edge of the box by Eleanor Coulson, who found herself through on goal and unselfishly passed to Amber Brown, who slotted home to double Llangefni’s lead.
Again, there was a four-minute gap before Llangefni made it 3, this one just as good if not better than the first. Right-back Marissa George picked up the ball from a similar distance but out wide, and her shot found almost the identical spot that Owen had less than 10 minutes earlier.
With Llangefni having the majority of the ball and creating chances, some good defending and saves kept the score down. Almost 20 minutes went by before Llangefni found their fourth – Ffion Owen with her second of the game.
The midfield dynamo received the ball in the middle, her direct running took her past a couple of Llan defenders and through on goal, Lacey saved the first effort but Owen was quickest to react and turned home at the second time of asking.
Half time; Llangefni 4-0 Llanystumdwy

Llangefni started the second half exactly the same as the first, taking them just fiur minutes to extend their lead.
Lowri Thomas got in behind the defence, and her cross found Brown in acres of space right in front of goal, Brown made no mistake, boosting her record to 16 goals in 11 matches.
No goals followed, although Llangefni carried on creating chances but were denied by some resilient defending and Lacey in the ‘Stumdwy goal.
The visitors had a lot of defending to do and were without the ball for the majority of the game but they kept going until the very end.

Sion Parry, Llanystumdwy manager, said: “Honestly all things considered we’re quite satisfied with that today – which sounds crazy having lost 5-0. I know I’ve spoken about the importance of availability before but today it felt like we were unlucky. With Tash’s injury and Heledd’s illness, we lost 2 centre backs that had started every single game together this season, even Annest who herself has started every game this season and filled in at centre back last week after Tash came off injured was unavailable today.
“We came off a really good performance and result last week, and then this week we play the strongest team in the league away from home with 6 of the 10 starting outfield players from last week missing.
“Combined we have 10 centre backs and centre midfielders at the club, and only 1 was available today, Hana – a centre midfielder, who actually had to play centre back because we only had wingers then who had to fill in at centre midfield.
“So definitely after that first 15 minutes you really start to fear the worst but the girls really dug deep after that start and didn’t give up which is all that I ask for every week.
“We know how strong Llangefni are, and even if we had everyone available they still would’ve been favourites, they’ve shown this season i think they really are ready to kick on in their chase for promotion and today again it was a professional performance for them, they played some great football and they might actually be disappointed that they didn’t score more with the chances they created.”

Caernarfon Town 0
Trearddur Bay 2 (Woods 41, M Thomas 89)

After 10 straight defeats Trearddur Bay celebrated their first win of the 2025-26 season with a 2-0 success at The Oval.
Bay had not recorded a victory since beating Amlwch Town 3-1 on the final day of last term, but on Sunday it all came good.
Alhough the result was not enough to lift them off the basement, they are now just a point behind next-bottom Denbigh and three in arrears of Caernarfon.

The Anglesey side broke the deadlock on 41 minutes when captain Freya Davies teed up Jess Woods for her third goal of the season and 19th in 19 appearances for the club she joined in 2024-25.
And the win was completed in the 89th minute when 60-year-old wonder Meinir Thomas converted a Woods assist for her second goal in club colours.
