NWC DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE: Phoenix win a real thriller, Pwllheli hit six, Nefyn bag five

NORTH WALES COAST DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE – REPORTS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2
East Division
Penmaenmawr Phoenix Development 3 Kinmel Bay Dev 2
A fantastic advert for the Development League at Cae Sling saw Penmaenmawr Phoenix edge a thrilling contest against a strong Kinmel Bay side.
Both teams came into the game in fine form, and the crowd were treated to a pulsating 90 minutes of
football.
The Phoenix started brightly, dominating early possession. A clever through ball from Harvey Roberts found Charlie Mcilvogue, who was brought down in the box before he could get his shot away.
The referee pointed straight to the spot and Harry Lee Birchall made no mistake, firing home his 13th goal of the season to give the hosts an early lead.
The goal sparked Kinmel Bay into life, and they began to create chances of their own. Their pressure paid off in the 38th minute, when Tate Walker found the net to make it 1–1. That’s how it stayed at the break, with everything still to play for.
Kinmel came out the stronger side in the second half and looked the more likely to take the lead, but Phoenix hit back through a moment of quality down the left flank. Substitute Benn Lundstram delivered a teasing ball across goal, and McIlvogue was on hand at the back post to slot home his 10th goal of the season — an impressive return in his first year of senior football.
The visitors levelled again in the 70th minute, when Benjamin Preater capitalised on a midfield mix-up and finished calmly into the bottom corner.
With the scores locked at 2–2 and injuries forcing a reshuffle, both sides pushed hard for a winner. Deep into stoppage time, the Phoenix faithful were sent into raptures as Benn Lundstram turned provider once again, threading a superb ball through for substitute Harry Benjamin, who finished clinically into the bottom corner in the 93rd minute.
Cue wild celebrations at Cae Sling!
An excellent performance, an electric atmosphere, and a fitting showcase for the league.

Phoenix are now up to second, while Kinmel Bay, who suffered their first defeat of the season, drop to third.
