JD CYMRU NORTH: Holyhead Hotspur grab first win at 11th attempt, Holywell hit six and return to top

JD CYMRU NORTH REPORTS – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1

Holyhead Hotspur 3 (C Owen 16, T Owen 48, K Owen 90+6)
Denbigh Town 2 (Beaumont 44, Vaughan 66)
Kenleigh Owen has produced so many vital goals for Holyhead Hotspur during his career and Saturday’s was up there with any of them as it clinched his team a first win of the season in the JD Cymru North.
Without a victory in 10 previous attempts since their promotion back to Tier 2, Hotspur finally got it right as they defeated a fifth-placed Denbigh side thanks to sub Owen’s 96th minute decider at the New Stadium.
Owen, 36, a former Wales Under-19 international, only came on in the 82nd minute but had a special part to play on a memorable afternoon for the Holy Islanders.
Hotspur struck first 15 minutes into the contest when a free-kick into the Town box was not cleared and Connor Owen fired in on the turn.
Four minutes later it was almost two but for the superb work of stand-in goalkeeper Luke Wilmot, who denied Cory Williams one on one.
Soon after Wilmot was called upon again when Owen was given time and space down the middle before being thwarted by Denbigh’s custodian.
In a busy shift for the Town stopper he foiled Holyhead again when a corner found the head of Owen at point blank range, but Wilmot was excellent to deny.
Against the run of play just before the break, a Nathan Brown corner met the head of Bobby Beaumont, who made it 1-1.
Hotspur were back in front three minutes into the second half when a Jake Roberts corner was nodded home by Tomos Owen.
It was almost 3-1 in the 55th minute when Williams’ effort from the edge of the box was brilliantly saved by Wilmot low to his right.

Visiting manager Dewi Llion opted to roll the dice, bringing on four substitutes on 57 minutes – Harry Lockley, Danny Clarke, Alfie Vaughan and Dan Flanders – but it was almost in vain as a deep ball found Corey Jones at the back post, but he couldn’t direct it on target.
Vaughan levelled for Denbigh on 66 with an excellent finish. Sam Duffy worked a brilliant ball to the left for Vaughan, who drilled into the bottom right corner for 2-2.
Going into the closing stages Holyhead found the crossbar from range but neither goalkeeper was truly tested until deep into stoppage time when replacement Kenleigh Owen raced through and finished well to hand the home side their first league victory of the season.
Owen, Owen, Owen……gone! Holyhead Hotspur’s winless run is over!
Hotspur: Guto Hughes, James Phillips, Jake Roberts, Tomos Owen, Corey Jones, Ifan Emlyn Jones, Jamie Jones, Jack Walsh, Cory Williams, Craig Whelan, Connor Owen. Sub used: Kenleigh Owen.
Holywell Town 6 Brickfield Rangers 0

The Wellmen returned to top spot in style with a six-goal demolition of Brickfield at the Bartons North Wales Stadium.
Now unbeaten in 12 matches – 10 wins and two draws – Johnny Haseldin’s men took a 24th minute lead via Craig Lindfield.
Guto Williams registered his first goal for Town on the half-hour and it was something special – an unstoppable 20-yard volley which gave keeper Robbie Williams not a prayer.
Jamie Breese added a third from the penalty spot before the interval.
Lindfield, Danny Sullivan and Breese added further home goals after the changeover. Breese is now on 16 for the season, Lindfield 12.
Buckley Town 4 Caersws 3
Bucks remained in the top six after edging a seven-goal cracker.
Ben Guest and Liam Ellis netted for the hosts in the first half, Max McLaughlin replying to make it 2-1 at the turnaround.
Aled Bellis made it 3-1 on 63 minutes, but Caersws stayed in it when Ashley Harries responded after 69.
Connor Littler bagged the Bucks’ fourth on 71 to give Asa Hamliton’s side breathing space and although Harry Cottam nabbed a third for Caersws five minutes over the 90, the home team held on for the points.
Guilsfield 3 Flint Mountain 0
A Danny Reid own goal handed Guilsfield a half-time lead before second period strikes from Adam Hailes and Sam Flory sealed a Guils triumph.
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3 Penrhyncoch 1
Jack Parry’s early first half double put Rhyl on course for a much-needed win at home to bottom side Penrhyncoch.
Parry netted on two and 12 minutes, assists from Ben Lightfoot and Tom Kemp respectively, to get the Lilywhites, beaten 6-0 at Airbus eight days earlier, off to a flyer.
On 18 minutes, Parry had a chance to make it a hat-trick but missed from the penalty spot.
Lewis Hodson made it 3-0 nine minutes into the second half and that killed off Penrhyn, who did not manage a consolation goal until injury time via Niall Coleridge.
