LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST – REPORTS NOVEMBER 1

Connah’s Quay Town 2 Porthmadog 7

Two goals apiece from Dan Atkins, Sam Reynolds and Danny Brookwell helped ensure Porthmadog returned to the league summit in some style.

Saturday’s clash was played on a heavy pitch at Deeside Stadium after recent torrential rain, both sets of players taking a while to adapt to the conditions.

Port keeper Josh Cooke was first to be tested after a free kick was given out on the left. Cooke managed to push it to safety, only for Harris Thomas’ header from a Lewis Williams cross after only 6 minutes giving Town the lead.

It was 1-1 in the 15th minute when a clearance from Cooke found Atkins, who ran through and slotted past keeper Elliott Jones.

On 20 minutes, Brookwell’s inswinging corner was met by Reynolds, who headed Port into a 2-1 advantage.

Cooke saved superbly to prevent an equaliser before Port quickly broke away and Brookwell found his way into the box only to be clipped from behind,

Up stepped Cai Jones to take the penalty. The 18 year old keeper pulled off a great save only for Cai Jones to slot in the rebound.

In the 35th minute, Town’s Jonathan Taylor was shown a second yellow card for dissent after being cautioned just 10 minutes earlier for kicking the ball away after commiting a foul.

Half time 1-3

Town’s 10 men started the second half brightly and on 53, Harris Thomas collected the ball from Lewis Williams and from the halfway line his audacious wind-assisted attempt caught Cooke out and found itself in the back of the net.

Game on – or so most thought. Brookwell had other ideas as he broke into the box after a pass from Caio Evans and from the byline managed to squeeze the ball between Jones and the post to make it 4-2.

Town’s Pascal Gomez soon found himself in space only for his effort to go wide.

Brookwell scored his second on 69 as he surged into the Town box past 3 players and blasted past Jones to make it 5-2.

Port were now in total control and on 77 Atkins ran down the left wing and a perfect cross was converted into a goal by Reynolds – 6-2. Atkins’ far post finish soon delivered Port’s seventh.
