All hail Lex – the Lawmen are off the mark for the season and in some style!
The Wrexham side travelled to Dolgellau as firm second favourites for a League Cup tie on Tuesday but came away as heroic winners.
It was the Law’s first win of the season, a result they now aim to transfer to their Ardal North East campaign.
Following a postponement in September, the game was rescheduled and played at Bala Town’s Maes Tegid on Tuesday.
The previous encounter between this pair saw Lex well beaten 6-2 by a well-drilled Dolgellau. The Lawmen were determined to put on a better showing this time around.
The first half started with Dolgellau taking an early foothold in the game and controlling possession against a disciplined Lex side.
Lex goalkeeper Joey Jones was forced into a couple of quality saves to keep the game at 0-0 with the Law managing a few half chances of their own, but mostly limited to long range efforts.
The visitors came out after half time with a more positive mindset and took the game to Dolgellau. After 56 minutes half time substitute Tiler Moorcroft-Jones broke the deadlock after a cool assist from 16 year old Rudi Suckley.
Thirteen minutes later the Lex man mountain Seb Kidd made it 2-0 after capitalising on a long ball from the Lex keeper.
Lex continued to play on the front foot which included a great chance to go 3 up, Luca Filby narrowly missing the target, and the chance to put the game beyond doubt.
Following the miss the Dolgellau substitutes started to grow into the game ultimately resulting in Gerwyn Williams scoring in the 84th minute making for a nervy end to the game for Lex.
Lex saw the game out in a disciplined manner with 16 year old Jack Edwards and 17 year old Harry Bustin both coming on in the process to make their first team debuts.
In a game that was difficult to pick a man of the match, Lex number 6 Kieron Jones took the accolade after another incredible performance in the midfield alongside the experienced Nicky Chesters.
Lex now turn their attention to undefeated league leaders Llanuwchllyn, who they play at home on Saturday in a 2pm Kick Off.
