Amlwch Town women’s team founder is leading plans to re-form the side

One of North Wales women’s football’s most pioneering figures will lead the return of a team he did so much to form when it began.

Amlwch Town FC report that Andrew “Lefty” Wright will be heading its efforts to re-establish a senior women’s team.

The Ynys Môn side disbanded before the start of the current season due to a lack of players, but are now planning a welcome comeback.

Amlwch are former winners of the North Wales League Division Two title and Supplementary Cup.

Wright has a wealth of experience coaching junior, men and women’s football across North Wales.

He was instrumental in first establishing Amlwch Town FC Ladies back in 2011 and in recent seasons was part of the CPDM Bangor management team when they won the North Wales Women’s League title as invincibles in 2022-23 and had a spell as motivational coach at CPDM Pwllheli.

Lefty said, “I’ve spoken to a couple of people about coming on board as part of the bootroom and we’re looking forward in trying to re-establish a women’s team for the upcoming season. Amlwch have enjoyed success in the past and the town deserves a women’s team to cheer on again here at Lôn Bach.

“The aim is to build a competitive squad that blends local talent, emerging young players, and experienced footballers – creating a team capable of competing strongly at Tier 3 level.”

He added, “We’ll be looking to get things moving as soon as possible, with open sessions and further details to follow shortly. This is a great opportunity to be part of something new, fresh and exciting and help shape the future of women’s football at the club.”

If you’re interested in playing, supporting, or getting involved in any way, please feel free to contact Amlwch Town FC via our socials or email: amlwchtownfc@aol.com for more information.
