Amlwch Town ladies new club captain and squad coordinator Lauren Bate is looking forward to working alongside the man who helped her become a footballer and coach.

Lauren says Andrew “Lefty” Wright, who will manage the re-formed Anglesey team in 2026-27, has been a big influence on her footballing life.

The pair are aiming to reestablish Town on the North Wales football map in the months ahead.

Wright, a leading force in the emergence of Amlwch Town Ladies in 2011, has coached and managed at other clubs in both women’s and men’s football over the years including CPDM Bangor and Pwllheli.

Mother-of-two Lauren’s involvement in football goes back many years and she has been highly encouraged by the growth of the female game over the decades.

She said: “I actually started playing football when I was 7 in Amlwch. I started in the adult game at 14 with the women’s team in Llangefni with Carol Lewis (ex-Amlwch, now CPDM Bangor) and Stacey Evans (Trearddur Bay) and remain good friends to this day.

“I coach alongside Emma Roberts (Amlwch Town and Ynys Mon player) with the under-11 girls at Llanerchymedd with my daughter Alexa and will be taking on the under-9s next season with my daughter Alivia.

“My passion is giving girls in any club the opportunities I desperately wanted and it’s so good to see that there are now multiple teams in girls and women’s teams across Anglesey.

“I played under Lefty, and loved how organised, fair and encouraging he was. Now seemed the right time to come home and learn more.”
