Tier 4 title hopefuls Lex XI have signed one of the Wrexham area’s finest strikers.
Matthew Worrall, 29, has joined the Law from Llay Miners Welfare, where he made 11 first team appearances this season for the Cymru North club.
Worrall, known affectionately as ‘Woggy’, now becomes part of Lex’s quest to win the North East Wales League Premier Division title.
Originally in summer 2024, Worrall signed for a third spell at Gresford Athletic, where he first played during the 2019/20 season and then again in the first half of 2021/22, but later decided to return to Llay instead.
Worrall started his career at the Welly, where he stayed for a number of seasons, before joining Queen’s Park for a couple of spells between 2016 and 2018.
In 2018, the striker spent time at both Denbigh Town and Rhyl until he returned to Llay again in January 2019. Then, at the start of 2019/20, he joined Gresford, but his time at the club was short-lived and he made the move back to Llay in August of the same season.
A brief stint at Capenhurst Villa and a second period at Gresford were fitted in alongside his time at Llay between 2020 and 2022, until he joined Denbigh in January 2023 and helped the club win the tier 3 Lock Stock Ardal North West and Lock Stock Ardal North League Cup.
Worrall was a major hit at Central Park in 2022-23, scoring 21 goals in 20 games before the end of the campaign, including a double in the League Cup final, which saw Town thrash Bow Street 6-1.
During 2023/24, Worrall made 23 appearances in all competitions and scored 15 goals as Denbigh secured a sixth-place finish in their first season back in the JD Cymru North.
That brought his overall record for Denbigh to a fantastic 36 goals in 43 matches.
Worrall left Central Park and began the current campaign at Llay, scoring twice in his first game, a 3-1 Nathaniel MG Cup victory over….Denbigh!
Four months later he becomes part of the exciting Lex XI set up.
A dynamic, skilful attacking player, Worrall has a talent for producing some special goals.
