GENERO ADRAN NORTH – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Flint Town United 1 (Rosie Hughes 59)
Llandudno 1 (Hannah Owen 71)

Flint captain Ruby McGilloway classed Sunday’s draw at the Essity Stadium as one of the most exciting games she has ever played in.

Taking on a Llandudno side which had already beaten league champions Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Adran Trophy this season, the Silkwomen proved more than a match for the twice Tier 2 title winners.

Both sides had good chances in the first half, Beth Roberts testing Tudno keeper Beca Davies just a couple of minutes after the start.

It stayed 0-0 up to half time and after the interval both teams went for it, an end-to-end encounter which entertained everyone present.

And in the 59th minute the hosts broke the deadlock.

Rosie Hughes is about to score the opener

Visiting captain Sofie Owen’s attempted clearance was blocked by the outstanding Rosie Hughes, who delightfully slotted the loose ball into an empty net.

Hannah Owen has been a standout player for Llandudno since transferring from Llangefni Town in the summer and it was no surprise when she found a 71st minute equaliser.

Seren Cashen crossed and Owen’s great movement in the box enabled her to make it 1-1.

Several stoppages meant quite a bit of added time, but Flint dug deep, defended well and made sure they claimed a hard-earned point.

Flint skipper Ruby McGilloway

Silkwomen skipper McGilloway said: “It was one of the most fast and exciting games I’ve been involved in.

“Off the back of Llandudno’s 1-0 win to Connahs Quay we knew we would have to work hard and battle for everything and we did from the get-go.

“We proved what we can do against a top side and have set the benchmark for the rest of the season.

We now move onto Berriew away on Sunday where we will travel well with a full squad and look to earn ourselves 3 points.”
