Farewell for now to Glantraeth Football Club
Glantraeth FC has withdrawn from the North Wales Coast West League.
The Anglesey-based club had endured a very difficult start to the 2025-26 season, lying bottom of the Premier Division table with five straight defeats and a goal difference of -48.
They lost their opening match 21-1 and had not played a league game since the end of August.
However, the club insists it will regroup and aims to return to football next season.
Glantraeth has a mixed history, ranging from the high of being crowned second-tier Cymru Alliance League champions in 2005-06 to temporarily folding in 2009-10 and 2017-18 due to player shortages and, in the latter season, difficulties in meeting promotion requirements.
The club released the following statement today
“The club committee have made the decision with sadness to withdraw the club from the league season 2025-26.
“With last season’s management stepping down from their roles and then having to regroup in management again towards the end of pre-season, this had a knock on effect in losing last season’s squad. This was a big factor in our struggle to continue. Then once having a new management with only two weeks before the season starting was the challenge with most players already committed to clubs.
“The club would like to give a big thanks to Robbie Jones for giving his all in keeping the club going and his efforts were not unnoticed within the committee.
“Big thanks to the supporters and sponsors that have helped us this season. Really appreciate the support.
“The club aims to bounce back next season and get back to playing at Trefdraeth again.”
