Llangefni Town so close to first Adran Trophy group point

After two narrow defeats against higher level opponents in the Adran Trophy, Llangefni Town have had ideal preparation for their first North Wales Coast League game of the season away to Caernarfon Town this Sunday.
Cefni came up agonisingly short of gaining an Adran Trophy group point last weekend when they were pipped 2-1 by a last-minute goal against last term’s Adran North runners-up Llanfair United.
Town welcomed back goalkeeper Mia Gleave, who made her first appearance since the Betty Pickering Cup final in May 2024.
Her return coincided with a strong start for the home side, who took an early lead just seven minutes in.
Lowri Thomas delivered a superb through ball to Ellie Coulson, who showed composure to beat the keeper and calmly slot into the back of the net.
Llanfair responded with several attacks, but the Llangefni defence held firm, ensuring they went into half time with their 1-0 lead intact.
The second half saw Llangefni make a couple of substitutions, with Amber Brown and Beth Jones replacing Lowri Thomas and Cara Aston.
However, Llanfair came out with renewed intensity and their pressure paid off just four minutes into the half, as they found an equaliser from a well-worked move finished off by Sophie Cook..
The game became an end-to-end affair, with both teams creating chances. Llangefni introduced more fresh legs in the 67th minute, with Jordan Roberts and Llinos Hughes coming on for Mared Roberts and Nia Ginnelly, followed by Elin Roberts replacing Ffion Owen in the 75th minute.
As the match seemed destined for a draw, Llanfair delivered a crushing blow in the 90th minute, scoring their second goal via Lucie Gwilt to take a 2-1 lead. Llangefni battled to find a late equaliser but couldn’t, as Llanfair held on for the win.
Llangefni now turn their attention to their first league match of the season. They travel to Treborth Playing Fields on Sunday, September 21st to face Caernarfon Town.
