Huge happy 19th birthday to Manchester City and Wales defender Mayzee Davies, who hails from the town of Flint.

Born in Bodelwyddan on August 25, 2006, Mayzee has earned six full caps for the Wales women’s senior national team.

She is currently recovering from an ACL injury which cost her a place in Rhian Wilkinson’s squad for the recent Uefa Euro 2025 finals in Switzerland.

While Wales women have made big strides in recent years, a few key players are approaching the twilight of their careers and top prospects like Mayzee will be crucial to ensure the good work continues.

Mayzee played youth football from the age of seven for Flint Town United and Llandudno before joining the Everton academy aged nine. She moved to the academy at Manchester City the following season, spending five years with the club. In 2022, she joined Manchester United under-18s.

The defender was named in the travelling squad as part of the Manchester United senior team’s mid-season training camp in Malta in January 2024. As part of the camp she played the first half of a 2-1 friendly victory over PSV.

In December 2023, Mayzee joined AFC Fylde of the third-tier FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division on dual registration terms. On 10 March 2024, she returned to the WNL North on dual registration with Liverpool Feds, appearing five times for the club.

Manchester United released Mayzee upon the expiry of her contract in summer 2024. She signed with Manchester City in July 2024 and rejoined Liverpool Feds on dual registration the same month.

She was named in a senior matchday squad for Manchester City for the first time on 15 December 2024, for a WSL match against Everton.

As a youth, Mayzee represented Wales at under-17 and under-19, appearing during 2023 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship qualification and 2024 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship qualification.

In February 2024, she received her first senior call-up for Wales from interim head coach Jon Grey for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland but was an unused substitute.

She was recalled during UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying by new head coach Rhian Wilkinson and made her senior international debut on 9 April 2024, appearing as a 77th-minute substitute for Josie Green during Wales’ 6–0 victory over Kosovo in Podujevë.

She made a further two substitute appearances during qualifying as Wales reached the play-offs.

Sadly, on May 30, 2025, Mayzee fell awkwardly in the early stages of a Nations League qualifier in Denmark.

It later emerged she had ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament and would miss out on this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO tournament. She is now on the recovery road.

Mayzee’s father, John, is well-known in North Wales football as a former central defender in the Cymru Premier League.

He joined Chester City as a schoolboy and spent five seasons at the club. John later switched to Flint Town United and also had spells with Holywell Town, Colwyn Bay and Airbus UK, where he made 137 CPL appearances.
