North Walian defender Amy Richardson is hoping to make this her breakthrough season with SWPL club Celtic.
The 19-year-old has appeared twice in the squad as the Ghirls kicked off their 2025-26 campaign with wins over Hearts and Hamilton Academical. On Sunday against Hamilton, Amy came on for the last half hour of the 5-0 victory.
Capped 11 times by Wales Under-19s and on four occasions for the U17s, Amy was called up for the full senior squad in June’s 4-1 Uefa Women’s National League defeat to Italy.
While she remained on the bench, it was still very encouraging for the Penrhyn Bay teenager to be seen as part of head coach Rhian Wilkinson’s plans.
Amy arrived in Glasgow in summer 2024, becoming Elena Sadiku’s second pre-season signing joining from the Academy of WSL club Everton.
Having worked with the Celtic head coach during her time on Merseyside, the 18-year-old was reunited with Sadiku at Paradise, adding reinforcements to the Hoops backline.
Alongside spending time as part of the Toffees Academy, the youngster also had a spell out on loan with FA Women’s National North side Liverpool Feds, gaining senior experience.
Shortly after signing a three-year-deal with the club this summer, the defender earned her first senior call up for the aforementioned Italy game.
Amy made the switch to Partick Thistle Women in January 2025, joining them on a loan deal until the close of the 2024-25 campaign to gain some valuable game time.
