Heartbreaking news for Wales defender Mayzee Davies.

It was confirmed today ihe 19-year-old from Flint ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament during the recent Denmark v Wales international and will miss out on this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO tournament.

Last weekend’s UEFA Nations League clash in Odense saw Davies forced off the field within the opening four minutes with a distressing looking injury after falling awkwardly.

The Manchester City defender was winning her sixth cap having first appeared for the senior side against Kosovo in April 2024.

She particularly impressed on her full debut in February’s narrow 1-0 defeat in Italy.

A statement from the Wales camp said: “Unfortunately Mayzee Davies has suffered a rupture to her ACL during the international window and will miss out on this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO tournament.

“The thoughts of everyone involved with the team are with Mayzee and the FAW will offer their full support alongside @mancitywomen during the recovery. Brysia wella Mayzee “

Manchester City added: “She’ll now return to the City Football Academy to begin her rehabilitation under the guidance of the club’s medical team.

“Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Mayzee the very best in her recovery.”

Mayzee started playing at Flint aged 7, then moved on to Llandudno for a season before signing for Everton at 9.

She had a season with the Toffees before being offered a switch to Manchester City a year later.

After five seasons there, she joined Manchester United, then returned to City.

Mayzee represented Wales at under-15, U17 and U19 level, before stepping up to the full squad.

Her injury setback is yet another concerning case in the rise of career-threatening ACL damage being suffered by women players.
