Three very popular winners were declared at Wrexham AFC Women’s end-of-season awards.

Top-scorer Abbie Iddenden won Player of the Year, goalkeeper Liz Craven was Players’ Player and Young Player and Goal of the Season went to Lili Mai Jones.

The 2024-25 campaign saw the Red Dragons overcome a disappointing start before dramatically claiming a place in the top four for the second consecutive season, beating Swansea City on the final day of Phase One.

After that, the pride of North Wales claimed their first victories against Cardiff City and went on to secure a place in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup final for the second season in a row.

Despite defeat at Rodney Parade in the final to the Bluebirds, 2024/25 has provided a further platform to be built upon in 2025/26 for the side as they look to challenge at the top of the table.

Award winners:

Player of the Season – Abbie Iddenden

Former Stoke City prospect joined Wrexham in the summer, and while it took her time to settle following injury setbacks, by the end of the season the 25-year-old had established herself as one of the finest players in Welsh Women’s football.

Having registered 32 goal contributions in 25 matches, Abbie finished top of the assist charts in the Genero Adran Premier and was joint-fourth top goalscorer.

She scored 17 goals in all competitions and was second-highest markswoman in the Welsh Cup.

After receiving the award, Abbie said: “I’m so proud to wear this shirt and I definitely didn’t expect to get this in my first year at the club. We’ve got such a talented team and this award could’ve gone to anyone.

“I’ve loved my first year here. I came here with no expectations, I just wanted to enjoy my football and I feel like I’ve found my love for the game again. I’d like to give a massive thank you to the players and staff for all their support over the past season.”

Abbie is also one of three nominations for Adran Premier Player of the Season.

Player’s Player of the Season – Liz Craven

Liz joined following the 2024 Wrex Coast Tour, and firmly established herself as number one in the coming months.

Her most notable performance in a Wrexham shirt came in February against Swansea City down in South Wales, as she made a number of breath-taking stops to secure a top-four place in dramatic fashion.

In total, Liz appeared 21 times in all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets in total.

Craven said: “Winning this award is a huge honour. Everyone has been really supportive of me and I think that has helped me to build my confidence and to perform well on the pitch.

“From an individual perspective, I think that this has been my best season and the favourite season that I’ve played in on a personal note. I love playing for Wrexham – it’s a really big honour that I can help the club to move forward.”

Young Player and Goal of the Season – Lili Jones

Lili Mai Jones won the club’s Young Player accolade for the second season running.

Her Goal of the Season winner was a long range match-deciding stunner against The New Saints.

Lili won the Genero Adran Young Player of the Season award in 2023-24 and is in contention for that prize again.

More on Lili’s achievements are featured in a separate article published earlier this evening on Grassroots North Wales.
