Amlwch Town have withdrawn from the North Wales Women’s Football League for the 2025-26 season due to a lack of players.
Since the end of last season and after registering with the league for the campaign ahead, the Anglesey team have lost numerous players and were left with insufficient numbers to fulfill fixtures.
Amlwch have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales women’s football. Their demise means Ynys Môn now has just two senior women’s teams competing – Llangefni Town and Trearddur Bay.
Amlwch’s strongest years came at the end of the last decade and the start of the current one.
They won their first trophy, the North Wales Supplementary Cup, in 2018-19, beating Wrexham Ladies 2-1 in the final at Rhyl.
Following the unprecednted success of the Ynys Môn women’s team at the 2019 Inter-Games, Amlwch signed a number of players from the representative squad.
They went on to win the North Wales Women’s League Division Two title in a 2019-20 season shortened because of the pandemic, not losing a single game in doing so.
Recent seasons had seen the team’s results decline, but determinedly they continue to compete.
Amlwch were one of 10 teams set to participate in the new North Wales Coast Women’s League this season, but for now they are no more.
