Chirk teams have made a mixed start to the 2025 season in the Shropshire County Cricket League.
This season, the 1st XI, who compete in Division One, are captained by Liam Walker, with David Lunt leading the seconds in Division Seven.
Here are the match reports from the opening five weeks of the campaign.
Nitish Sharma took an outstanding 4-14 as Chirk made it impressive back-to-back wins in Shropshire County Cricket League Division One on Saturday.
Put into bat by visitors Frankton, the North Wales side set 193-7 off 40 overs, opener Oliver Gough best with 45, Wynn Jones added 33 and skipper Liam Walker 29.
In reply, the away side plummeted to 35-5 before recovering partially to finish 86 all out.
Sharma’s four-for came off eight highly accurate and penetrative overs, Walker claiming 2-13 and Luke Gardner 2-16.
Chirk edged up to ninth in the table.
“Quatt” a disappointing day for Chirk seconds.
Invited to bat, Quatt seconds chalked up a useful 223 all out off 39.3 overs, Kathleen Seager hitting 52 and Joseph Cotham 41, Habibullah Ahmadzai taking 3-27 and Omid Niazi 2-22 for the North Walians.
In response, Chirk were dismissed for just 122, opener Daniel Graham an outstanding 70, Charlie Wheldon 4-21 and Esther Hurford 3-29 for the winners.
A last-wicket partnership of 47 between Nitish Sharma and Luke Gardner guided Chirk to a thrilling victory at Morda Road.
Oswestry won the toss and batted, ending up 210 all out off 43.2 overs, Ruchira Bandarage 63 and opener Henry Walker 62, with Gardner (3-38), Sharma (2-24), Oliver Gough (2-25) and captain Liam Walker (2-34) sharing the wickets for the visitors.
In reply, Chirk slipped from 47-1 to 65-5, but a stand of 68 between Walker (32) and chief batting hero Aled King (74) put the North Walians back in the contest.
However, at 164-9 things looked grim, especially when King, whose super knock came off just 49 balls and included 12 fours and two sixes, was bowled.
Enter Sharma (33 not out) and Gardner (11 no) to win the game for the away team, Oswestry’s best bowler Brandon Diplock with 4-24.
As well as scoring 32 and taking two wickets, captain Walker also took three catches for the victorious visitors.
After bowling out their visitors for just 119 things looked good for a Chirk seconds win, but it was not to be.
Put into bat, only Richard Lewis (39) made any real impact for Guils, the wickets being spread between George Collins (2-15), Harry Lunt (2-18), Zahid Nasiri (2-19) and Hidayat Haroonkhail (2-21).
Chirk were dismissed for only 96, Rupert Shingler 4-7 for the Powys victors.
Chirk were never in a contest which saw their Shropshire visitors rattle up an uncatchable total of 270-5 off their 45 overs.
Opener Ed Fowler made 82 and Baadal Parag 52 not out for the away team, who must have been delighted to be asked to bat first.
Best bowling for the hosts was Luke Gardner with 2-44.
Chirk were then sent packing for just 126, Parag 5-18.
On this day, Chirk seconds’ travels took them to Harcourt CC, set within the picturesque Harcourt Estate just outside of Stanton Upon High Heath.
The North Wales visitors batted first and made a modest 139, but that score was more than enough to seal victory as the hosts were blown away for just 71, Barry Wilding taking 3-4, Daniel Graham 2-10 and George Collins 2-18.
Openers Daniel Graham (55) and skipper David Lunt (42) laid the foundations for a Chirk seconds victory with a stand of 85.
Invited to bat, the hosts eventually set 186-7 off 40 overs, Archie MacKenzie 3-32 for the visitors.
Whittington were limited to 141-5 in response, Sharma 2-26.
An opening day defeat for Chirk, whose total of 148 all out (Aled King 22) never looked like being sufficient to win them the game.
Matthew Morris took 3-21 and David Ross 3-46 for the Shropshire visitors, who made it to 149-5 off 40.3, Nitish Sharma 2-15 and Oliver Gough 2-26 for the hosts, skipper Henry Morris top-scoring with 48 for the winning team.
Just one batsman made double figures for Chirk seconds, extras the highest contributor with 29 runs in a paltry total of 89 all out, Ollie Meyrick 3-22.
Visitors Albrighton eased to 90-2, Rhys Evans 2-12 for the hosts.
