CRICKET: Skipper’s heroics unable to save Chirk from defeat to Shrewsbury

DIVISION ONE
Shrewsbury 2nd XI (20) 173-7 Chirk 1st XI (5) 172-9

Captain Liam Walker notched his fourth half-century of the season and passed 500 club runs in 2025, but still Chirk were unable to grab a much-needed victory at London Road.

Put into bat, the North Wales visitors posted 172-9 off 45 overs, Walker hitting 69 and opener Oliver Gough 56, the pair putting on 111 for the second wicket.

However, no other batsman was able to make double figures, Thomas Richards taking 3-23 and Zane Beattie 3-27 for Shrews.

In reply, the Salopians made it to 173-7 in 36.2, Daniel Walker notching 49 and Joshua Anders 43, Nitish Sharma grabbing 3-46 for Chirk, who lost out 20 points to five.

DIVISION SEVEN
Chirk 2nd XI (2) 90-10 Ludlow 3rd XI (20) 91-4

Invited to bat, Chirk seconds could only manage a paltry 90 all out with extras the highest contributor on 25.

Will Sampson claimed 4-11 and Ethan Harvey 3-15 for lively Ludlow, who responded with a winning 91-4, Alfie Shaw an impressive 3-5 for the hosts.
