CRICKET: North Wales League Div 2-4: Leaders of divisions 3 and 4 suffer defeats, Buckley’s Rocco sets new club record

DIVISION TWO

Abergele (11) 148-8 Marchwiel and Wrexham (4) 147-8

Abergele edged home by two wickets in a game which saw the bowlers mainly on top.
Put into bat, Marchwiel and Wrexham set 147-8 off 40 overs, Luke Davies with a fine 46 not out batting at seven, David Moulson 3-24 for Gele.
The hosts made it to 148-8 off 31.5, Nathan Aldridge 33, Moulson 29 and Edward Rooney an important 19 not out, Scott Lawrenson 3-28 and Sam Shoemark 3-34 for the visitors.

Carmel & District (4) 189-8 Corwen (11) 196-6

Will Roberts made a half-century for Corwen

Leaders Corwen eked out a seven-run victory at a Carmel outfit who pushed them all the way.
The visitors chalked up 196-6 off 40 after electing to bat, Rob Storey 65, Will Roberts 55 and captain William Pooler 30 not out, Syam Sreedharan taking 3-27 on debut for the hosts, Aled Proffitt 2-29.
Despite a marvellous 96 from the in-form Supun Eranga, who has now passed 500 league runs for the season, Carmel finished up just short of the 197 target on 189-8.
Harry Pooler scooped 4-20 and William Pooler 3-25 for victorious Corwen in a great game of cricket.

Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (1) 151-9 Buckley (14) 153-2

Rocco Franco 4,877 club runs

Rocco Franco’s 69 not out made him a record-setter as he became Buckley CC’s all-time highest run-scorer on 4,877 across all levels.
The 21-year-old notched a fifth league half-ton of the season and made his best score of 2025 in this victory at Alder Meadow.
Pont seconds were limited to 151-9 off 40 overs, skipper Dave Evans best with 36, Adam Shaw taking 4-25 and Matthew Blunden 3-25 for the visitors.
Bucks reached 153-2 in a ridiculous 16.4 overs, opener Franco’s 45-ball knock including 10 fours and three sixes, Jack Gibson adding 53 in a first-wicket stand of 133.

Pwllheli (3) 133-10 Llanrwst (12) 163-9

Skipper Alwyn Williams (43) and Aron Hughes (41) produced the key knocks which ensured Llanrwst’s total of 163-9 at Parc Bodegroes was a winning one.
Ioan Jones took 2-26, Ioan Roberts 2-29 and Harri Adams 2-32 for Pwllheli, who were bowled out for 133 in reply, Mohsin Khan 48, Alwyn Williams 3-15, Robert Parry 3-32, Elliott Mutch 2-18 and Trefor Williams 2-25 for the Rwsters.

Ruthin (1) 79-10 St Asaph 2nd XI (14) 82-3

Despite a determined 33 from Osian Roberts, Ruthin could only muster 79 all out after being put in by St Asaph seconds, for whom David North took 2-8, Mike Thompson 2-15, Russell Moore 2-20 and Ankush Upadayaya 2-23.
Ben Murphy then made 37 as Saints eased to 82-3, ensuring they maintain their lofty second position in Division Two, Llyr Williams 2-2.

Sunday, July 6

Llay Welfare (3) 171-9 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (12) 201-7

Opener Samuel Bixby’s 89 helped Menai Bridge seconds concoct a useful score of 201-7 at Dodleston, Ian Grainger adding 33. David Phennah 3-28 and Tom Parry 2-39 for Llay,
In reply, the hosts were kept down to 171-9, skipper Parry 37, David Owen 3-27, Blake Thomas 2-31 and Grainger 2-33 for the winning side from Anglesey.

DIVISION THREE

Bethesda 2nd XI (8) 124-10 Bersham (8) 124-10

A rare tied game in the North Wales League occurred at Parc Villa on Saturday.
Bethesda seconds batted first and were dismissed for 124, captain Richard Green 39 and Paul Griffith 36, Salu Sebastian taking 4-17 and Noufal Khader 4-18 for the visitors.
In response, Bersham were 90-5 but then lost three wickets without addition to the score.
They were nine down for 106, but managed to add 18 for the 10th wicket before Sopan Patil bowled the dangerous Aneesh Pattali for 30.
Prince Alexander scored 60 for Bersham before being fifth out, also dismissed by Patil.
Patil took 5-19 and Richard Lee Williams 2-29 for the Ogwen hosts. Eight points each.

Buckley 2nd XI (3) 143-10 Clwb Criced Caernarfon (12) 192-6

Monis Altaf’s impressive 68, plus 31 apiece from Chris Moody and skipper Huw Erddyn Davies ensured Caernarfon built up a winning score of 192-6 after being inserted by the opposition, Harry Sprowell 2-17 and Holly Mayers 2-27 for the hosts.
Buckley were all out for 143, Alex Storey 38 and Sprowell 32, Amdadul Hoque snapping up 4-20 and Shahin Papon 3-37 for the Cofis.

Conwy 2nd XI (15) 66-1 Gresford 2nd XI (0) 60-10

One of the most emphatic wins of the afternoon took place at Bodlondeb.
After putting Gresford seconds in and blitzing them out for just 60, Callum Davies 3-12, Carter Tawhai 2-5, Ben Callow 2-6 and Lucas Davies 2-8, Conwy seconds raced to 66-1 in just 12.3, Callow 35 no to seal a 15-0 victory.

Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (14) 94-2 Denbigh 2nd XI (1) 93-10

Runaway leaders Denbigh seconds finished up well beaten at second-placed Gwersyllt.
The Vale of Clwyd visitors were all back in the hutch for just 93 after being asked to bat, Finlay Rooke-Hart 30, Daniel Jones 3-13 and Michael Griffiths 3-19 for the hosts, who hit back with 94-2 off 18.5, Ted Pearson 28, James Collier 27.

Hawarden Park 2nd XI (15) 185-4 Abergele 2nd XI (0) 69-10

Openers Christopher Brooks (71) and Tom Wilson (52) did most to ensure Hawarden Park seconds delivered an unassailable total of 185-4, Sanjo Kuttan 2-24 for Gele, who were bamboozled for just 69, Wilson 3-8, Daniel Lodge 2-8 and Will Hinton 2-17.

DIVISION FOUR

Bersham 2nd XI (12) 112-10 Connah’s Quay 2nd XI (3) 86-10

Shins Varghese (38) led the way as Bersham seconds posted a modest 112 all out, Jake Chare 3-26, Alex Davies 2-23 and Hashmat Safi 2-24 for Quay seconds, who were themselves sent packing for just 86, Midhun Ashok 3-13, Kiran Viswambharan 3-22 and Varghese 2-17.

Dolgellau 2nd XI (-15) Brymbo 3rd XI (15) – Dolgellau conceded

Llanrwst 2nd XI (15) 32-0 Clwb Criced Y Bala (0) 31-9

Gaz Jones bagged 3-1, Daniel Jones 3-9 and Oliver Egelstaff-Thomas 2-4 as Llanrwst blew away Bala for just 31 and then cruised to 32-0 off 11.1 for an easy win.

Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (12) 201-8 Hawarden Park 3rd XI (3) 166-10

Zahid Sharif hit a career best 76 and Mike Lee a season’s finest 73 as Marchwiel and Wrexham seconds compiled a challenging 201-8 off 40, Vik Kumar 4-23 and Gyatavya Kumar 2-23 for the visitors, who were dismissed in reply for 166, Myles Bennett 52 and Aryan Aryan 37.
Sharif completed a great game by taking 3-9 off eight for the hosts, new-ball partner Paul Baines pouching 3-26 and Sebastian Oddie 2-18.

Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn (4) 131-9 Carmel & District 2nd XI (11) 132-9

Long-time leaders Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn were stunned as visitors Carmel seconds claimed a one-wicket victory at Argoed SSC.
The hosts chose to bat and registered 131-9 off 40, opener Peter Ford a long and patient 37 not out, Lee Rowles 4-17 and Vidu Kumaraguru 3-17 for the Flintshire villagers.
Ranjith Appuhamy (45) and skipper Cameron Ackroyd (30) did most to ensure Carmel got home on 132-9 with nine balls remaining.
Deepak Loguchetty Deenadayalu pocketed 3-30, Saboor Afghan 2-14 and Naseer Ahmadzai 2-17 for the home side, but it was not enough to save them from defeat.

Sunday, July 6

Ruthin 2nd XI (14) 112-3 Pwllheli 2nd XI (1) 111-10

Sion Goldston claimed 3-4, Osian Roberts 2-6 and Ian Goldston 2-28 as Ruthin dismissed Pwllheli seconds for 111.
The home side then completed a seven-wicket win with 112-3 in response, skipper Jamie Hughes a commanding 51 not out.
