Liverpool Competition: Centuries galore as Colwyn Bay and Northop Hall celebrate, but a weekend for Prestatyn to forget

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT COMPETITION – REPORTS SATURDAY, JULY 25

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (25) 268-3 dec Sefton Park 1st XI (4) 162-10

Skipper George Johansen’s first century in eight seasons inspired Colwyn Bay to a convincing home victory over Sefton Park on Saturday.
Johansen made 102 not out as Bay amassed 268-3 declared off 49.1 overs after being invited to bat by the visitors.
It was the captain’s first ton since making 121 versus Northop Hall back in 2018 and the fourth century of his career.
Johansen shared a third-wicket stand of 144 with Matthew Thompson, who contributed 79.
In reply, Sefton Park were dismissed for 162, Tom Clarke the star bowler for the hosts, scooping 7-75 off 18 overs. Those figures were the fourth best of Clarke’s career, but his top analysis for the first team.
Shay Williams took 2-27 as Bay gathered the verdict 25-4 and sit second in the First Division, just three points behind Southport and Birkdale.

Northop Hall 1st XI (25) 160-4 Birkenhead Park 1st XI (5) 157-10

Jac Kennedy’s dominant 91 not out guided fourth-place Northop Hall to a six-wicket success against Birkenhead at Smithy Lane.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, posting a total of 157 all out, which would have been considerably lower but for a fine 95 from Andrew Clarke.
Hall’s three-man attack did its usual great job, Paul Jenkins bagging 5-49 off 27 overs – his sixth five-for of the campaign which pushed him to 62 league wickets for 2026.
Partner-in-spin James Hurlin collected 4-64 off 20.
Kennedy then took centre stage as the Hall reached 160-4 off 43.4 to seal a 25-5 points decision, the opener striking 12 fours and a six in his unbeaten 91.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 1st XI (5) 124-10 Old Xaverians 1st XI (24) 190-8 dec

Despite a four-wicket haul and half-century from Ryan Westwell, the rest of the Prestatyn side failed miserably in a home loss against Old Xaverians.
Winning the toss and opting for first knock, the visitors set 190-8 declared off 54.2 overs, Ian Carroll best with 57, Westwell claiming 4-33 off 12.2, Benjamin Hughes 2-43 and Kieran New 2-60.
Westwell then made 65, sharing an opening stand of 56 with Andy Taylor (22), but only one other batter could manage double figures as the hosts collapsed to 124 all out, Josh Dilworth 6-38 and Colin Gibson 4-30 for the winners.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Sefton Park 2nd XI (7) 179-9 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (9) 223-4 dec – drawn

Bay seconds ended up just a wicket away from victory at Croxteth Drive.
Jaiveer Tomar recorded a maiden ton for the visitors, his 116 helping Colwyn set a fine score of 223-4 declared off just 34.4 overs.
Bay were 57-3 before Tomar, who cracked 15 fours and five sixes in his 80-ball showcase, put on 141 for the fourth wicket with Thomas Omelia, who smashed a career-best 76 not out from 81 deliveries, plundering 10 fours and two maximums.
The away side looked certain winners when they reduced Sefton to 122-8, but a ninth-wicket partnership of 52 boosted the hosts to 174-9 and they held on for the draw.
Sion Hellen snapped up 5-46 and Sam Roberts 4-35 off 13 for the Welsh side, who were so unfortunate not to get the win.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Hightown St Mary’s 2nd XI (25) 124-3 Prestatyn 2nd XI (3) 123-10

Jason Edwards made a useful 43, but Prestatyn seconds’ score of 123 was never going to be enough to earn a victory which came Hightown’s way when they reached 124-3, Steven Edwards 3-21 for the visitors.

Whitefield (Roby) 2nd XI (6) 242-7 dec Northop Hall 2nd XI (23) 247-2

Openers Owen Skillander and Michael Williamson scored a century apiece as Northop Hall seconds romped to an eight-wicket triumph at Court Hey Park.
Whitefield seconds chalked up a very handy 242-7 declared, Qadeer Mahmood 91, Matteo Evans-Ford 4-55 and Liam Evans-Ford 2-44 for the Flintshire men.
Skillander and Williamson then formed a stunning opening stand of 211 to put the Hall well within sight of the victory post.
Skillander struck 18 fours in his 89-ball 121, while Williamson was 100 not out at the end, hitting 13 boundaries and two maximums in his 83-delivery knock.
