Ar nos Sadwrn cafodd CPD Llanystumdwy ei noson wobreuo yn Bryn Hir Arms Criccieth.
On Saturday night CPD Llanystumdwy had its presentation night in the Bryn Hir Arms Criccieth,
Having finished runners-up in North Wales Coast West Division One last season, Llanystumdwy were promoted to the Tier 4 Premier this term and finished a very respectable ninth.
Their record was: Played 30 Won 12 Drawn 6 Lost 12 Goals For 79 Goals Against 87
They lost their first four games, but then went eight unbeaten, that run featuring six wins including great victories over Cemaes Bay (4-3) and Nefyn United away (3-1).
A mixed bag of results followed, with the season ending winless in five, but including a very good 3-3 draw at Cemaes.
Leading scorers in the league were Arwyn Parry Jones (14), Owen Pritchard (13) and Guto Gwenallt (12).
Early exits from all the cups meant all positives came in the league.
For Sion Parry, it was a decent first full season as manager after having to retire through injury following a prolific goalscoring career.
Sion Parry also managed the women’s team in the Tier 3 North East Wales League West Division – and what a major improvement there was in fortunes.
Finishing fourth in the league, Llan’s record was five wins, two draws and five defeats, 12 goals scored and 23 conceded.
They came incredibly close to becoming the first and only team to beat eventual champions CPD Pwllheli in the league, leading 2-0 before conceding twice in added time. Pwll remain undefeated in the league in two seasons.
Early on the yellow and blues were flying, losing just one of 11 games – and that was to mighty Wrexham in the Welsh Cup.
CPDM Llanystumdwy were also outstanding in the Betty Pickering Cup, beating Kinmel Bay, Denbigh Town and Caernarfon Town twice before losing just 2-1 to Llangefni Town in the semis.
In all, they played 22 league and cup matches, winning 10, drawing 3 and losing nine.
Many players stood out, none more so than young midfielder Annest Roberts, who deservedly won the Players’ Player and Manager’s Player of the Year awards.
Manager Parry said: “I’ve coached Annest since she was 11, so to see the development year on year has been great. I always try to pick different players for awards and it’s hard to pick a manager’s player anyway, even harder when the player in mind then gets voted by the players as players’ player, so it’s the first time i’ve ever given manager’s player to someone thats also been voted as players’ player.”
Also in fine form was captain and key defender Tash Matthews, top-scorer with a career best seven goals in a season.
Both Llanystumdwy teams can certainly look forward to next season with great optimism.
