All rise for Rhos United – the undefeated 2024-25 North Wales Coast East Division One champions.

David Algieri’s invincibles clinched the title with plenty to spare after a 4-1 victory at Penrhyn Bay on Saturday.

That made it 19 wins and two draws in 21 matches for the red and blacks and fittingly they reached 100 league goals on the day.

This is believed to be Rhos United’s first title win since 1981-82, when they topped the former Vale of Conwy League, also with an undefeated record of 18 wins and 4 draws.

Penrhyn Bay promised to be tricky opposition on Saturday at Coleg Llandrillo and so it proved – in a goalless first half at least.

A blustery afternoon made for challenging conditions, with both teams struggling to adapt in the opening exchanges.

Penrhyn Bay looked to exploit their attacking talisman Gabriel George, but he was often isolated against a resolute Rhos defence.

Meanwhile, United stuck to their philosophy, keeping the ball on the ground and waiting for their moment to strike.

The second half began with Rhos using the wind to their advantage, but it was Penrhyn Bay who struck first.

In the 49th minute, a free kick was parried out by keeper Richard Hillier-Evans, targeting a seventh straight clean sheet, but slow reactions from the defence allowed Corey Roberts to pounce from close range.

For the next 10 minutes, Rhos looked unsettled, feeling the pressure of a potential league title stall.

Penrhyn seized the momentum, attacking down the left, but Rhos held firm and responded in style.

On the hour, a surging run from Bret Durkan into the box saw him hauled back by a desperate defender – penalty!

Up stepped Adam Williams, ice-cool under pressure, rolling the ball into the bottom left corner.

Confidence surged through Rhos, and with the wind in their favor, they began to dominate.

On 71 minutes Durkan, again causing havoc, was fouled just outside the box. A free kick in a dangerous area, and there was only one man for the job – Lewis Sealey. His strike was destined for the top corner, but a defender deflected it past his own keeper.

As the celebrations erupted, frustration boiled over for Penrhyn Bay. A reckless kick out at a Rhos player saw them reduced to 10 men as Morgan Gresty was dismissed.

Now with the numerical advantage, Rhos were well on top.

Scott Court, on for only two minutes, instantly made an impact. His neat pass found Phemmy Allison, who unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner.

In the 77th minute, Sealey put the icing on the cake with a curling effort that took a deflection on its way into the net. It was a 25th goal in all competitions for the 21-year-old livewire and he made it 21 in 19 league games.

The final whistle blew on an historic afternoon for the mighty Rhos!
