Ardal North West: Porthmadog, Hotspur and Bay still in with outside chance of title

The Lock Stock Ardal North West title race could have been over today – but it is still very much alive.
Leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 lost at home for the second game running, this time an impressive Trearddur Bay claiming a 2-1 victory at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium.
The Lilywhites still top the table with 62 points from 27 games, Porthmadog in second have 55 from 27 and Holyhead Hotspur sit third with 54 from 26.
Today saw Porthmadog keep their distant hopes of finishing top intact after a 1-1 draw at Llanrwst United, while a 93rd minute winner saw Hotspur defeat NFA 2-1.
Had the Holy Islanders only managed a draw, their title quest would be all but over, but Darren Garmey’s men managed to strike late and make it four wins in their last five.
Four teams can technically still win the title, with a possible final total of 63 still available to Trearddur Bay.

MATCH REPORTS – SATURDAY, MARCH 29
Holyhead Hotspur 2 NFA 1
James Phillips’ stoppage time winner kept Hotspur in the title race.
Loui O’Carroll struck first for the visitors with a 14th minute finish from a Thomas Hughes assist.
A Tomos Owen penalty on 33 minutes brought the scores level at the break.
In a tense second half, Phillips delivered the decider three minutes over the 90 to ensure Hotspur keep the pressure on at the top
Connah’s Quay Town 3 Menai Bridge Tigers 1
Town had this game more or less wrapped up by half time, Connor Parry scoring twice before Pascal Gomez added a third just before the break.
Cameron Barry replied in the 77th minute for next-to-bottom Menai Bridge, who suffered a fifth straight defeat.
Edward Brown was shown a red card for the home side on 73.
CPD Llannefydd 2 CPD Y Felinheli 1

A Rhodri Dafydd own goal on 78 minutes clinched a close verdict in Llannefydd’s favour.
Llion Morris put the hosts ahead after 24, Iwan Owen levelled on the half-hour.
Llanrwst United 1 Porthmadog 1
Danny Brookwell put visitors Porthmadog in front on 55 minutes with his 14th goal of the season, but Callum Parry rescued a point for Llanrwst with the equaliser after 59.
It was a 21st goal in all competitions for Parry, while for draw specialists the Rwsters it was a seventh 1-1 result in the league during 2024-25.
Nantlle Vale 2 Corwen 3
Late drama at Maes Dulyn as captain Scott Evans plundered a 96th minute winner for Corwen – this after Ashley Owen had knocked in Nantlle’s equaliser with 94 gone.
Earlier, Thomas Mann had given the visitors a seventh minute lead before Sam Henry made it two on 43.
Kevin Lloyd pulled one back for Vale on 59 and then came those added-time single goals for each side.
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1 Trearddur Bay 2
Well-deserved three points for Trearddur Bay, who had also defeated leaders Rhyl 1879 1-0 at home earlier this season.
Sub Casey Gregg broke the deadlock on 62 minutes from close range after Adam Reid had saved from Les Davies.
Toby Jones doubled the Bay total on 85 with a magnificent free kick and although sub Jonny Bravo pulled one back for an off-colour Rhyl after 88, it was too late to save the Lilywhites.
This match has been reported on in more detail elsewhere on Grassroots North Wales.
