North East Wales League: Broughton win battle of Championship high-flyers, tight at Premier peak

PREMIER DIVISION

FC Queen’s Park 4 Gronant 1

It is getting interesting at the top of the North East Wales Premier.
Third-place FC Queen’s Park made it 10 wins in their last 11 matches by seeing off Gronant at Queensway Stadium on Saturday.
The Park went a goal down on 29 minutes when Dylan Taylor struck for the visitors.
However, the hosts were 2-1 up by half time and went on to win convincingly.

87th min – Harry Gregory finds Michael Latham, who rifles a stunning 25-yard strike past the keeper

Coedpoeth United 5 Lex XI 3

A fine result for Coedpoeth moved them to within three points of leaders Mynydd Isa.
Iwan Bennett was a hat-trick hero for the home side, Adam Lloyd and Oliver Lewis also on target, while substitute Jonny Taylor grabbed all three for the Lawmen, who were 5-1 down until the latter stages.

Greenfield 1 Rhostyllen 3

Tomos Lee Williams (penalty), Jack Brindley and Sam Chesters delivered the goals for Rhostyllen, Darren Johns responding for the hosts.

Hawarden Rangers 2 Ruabon Rovers 2

Two late goals in a minute rescued a point for Hawarden.
Peter Evans and Deryn Jones netted on 15 and 44 minutes respectively to give the bottom side a handy interval lead.
However, sub Riley Jones replied on 76 and Josh Robertson added another a minute later to ensure it ended 2-2.

Penyffordd Lions 1 Mynydd Isa 1

The leaders were held at Penyffordd, James Beck edging Isa in front on nine minutes before captain Marcus Davies levelled after 26.

Saltney Town 5 Castell Alun Colts 0

Joey Hughes (2), Daniel Clewley, J J King and sub Dami Salami combined to deliver the Bordermen an emphatic victory.

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

Broughton United 3 Rhydymwyn 0

The league leaders took the spoils in the top of the table clash, swinging the title picture back into their favour in the process.
A tightly contested first half saw Broughton go in 1-0 at the break thanks to a Jimmy Ratcliffe penalty.
The visitors came out firing in the second half and put the pressure on in the search of an equaliser. It was a tense game, which nearly got even more nervy for Broughton when the referee awarded Rhydymwyn a penalty towards the end of the 90, only to see the linesman overule his decision.
With both teams trading blow for blow, and both goalkeepers doing their best to keep their side in the contest, Lewis Hopwood was put through on goal in the 89th minute, choosing to square the ball across for Luke Muia to tap home and put the game to bed.
Lewis Jones made it 3-0 from the spot in additional time.
Rhyd manager Liam Simon and striker Rhys Carrington were both shown a red card before the full time whistle.
The win now means that the title becomes Broughton’s to lose. Three wins in their last three games secures the trophy – with Rhydymwyn needing a flawless run and Broughton to slip up to turn the tide,
Overall, it was another fantastic advert for Tier 5, also drawing a large crowd to the Poppies 3g in Connah’s Quay.

Brymbo 2 Aston Park Rangers 2

Aston Park twice led through Jonny Crossley and James Redfern, but Brymbo rallied on each occasion to level via Jack Smallman and sub Josh Bachner, who restored parity in the 89th minute.

CPD Cei Connah 1 Holywell United 2

Paddy Sam Jones put Cei Connah one-up after 20 minutes but goals from Kieran Durkin and Tomos Dickinson (38 and 49) won the day for United.

Deeside Dragons 8 Deeside United 1

Lewis Littler netted four times as Dragons won the Deeside derby, Luke Norry, Jake Smith, Daniel Riley and Joshua Radford bringing up the eight, Kian Jones responding.

Johnstown YFC 3 Bellevue 1

Aaron Filmer, Dewi Reeves and Robert Cooper all made the scoresheet in this Johnstown success, Nigel Guramatunhau replying for the visitors.

CPD Sychdyn United 3 Acton 1

Joe Mitchell (2) and Jordan Walker supplied the goals for victorious Sychdyn, Thomas Edwards with Acton’s sole net-finder.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP A

Brickfield Rangers Reserves 7 Penycae Reserves 0

Seven-up for Bricky, Joise Fernandes (3), Jardel Lima Teixeira, Ashley Russell, Jardel Tavares Dias Da Mota and Blessing Osilaja sharing the riches.

Corwen Reserves 0 Mynydd Isa Reserves 5

Michael Whales (4) and Jacob Williams split the goals in this convincing away win.

Llangollen Town Reserves 2 Saltney Town Reserves 3

Good day for Saltney with their first team winning and their reserves also scooping three points, Leon Whitley (2) and captain Sean Williams, who was later red-carded, the Bordermen hitmen, Matthew Jones and Ben Lloyd having put Llangollen two-up at half time.
Lloyd also missed a penalty for the home side.

RESERVE DIVISION GROUP B 3RD ROUND

Castell Alun Colts Reserves 3 Greenfield Reserves 1

Reece Jones, Jamie Hardy and Elliott Moore were on target for the winners, Dion Davies for the visitors, who had Corey Kennedy red-carded on 59.

A narrow win for Lex Reserves, Ben Williams among their scorers from the penalty spot.
