Time to stop labelling Aimee Redfern an ‘unsung hero’ and change it to simply ‘hero’.
Since Grassroots North Wales described the defender as ‘unsung’ last week, Redfern has been appointed under-16s head coach and today she scored an added time winner for Nomads in a close-fought derby.
Jordan Parry’s side went top of Genero Adran North after a fourth straight win, but had to dig very deep to get past a newly-promoted Flint outfit which were second favourites on paper, but certainly equal to the opposition on 3G.
The deadlock was broken on 40 minutes when Flint’s Ruby Hastings was through on home keeper Molly France.
Despite being clattered by the goalkeeper, Hastings had already slipped the ball past France and it carried enough purchase to find the net.
No action was taken against the goalkeeper.
Nomads faced the possibility of going in a goal behind at half time, but instead turned the tables by scoring twice before the interval.
In the 43rd minute, Poily Wild-McGregor latched onto Keira Hardstaff’s through ball and finished calmly at the near post.
In added time, Ella Jones made it 2-1, her effort from an angle beating the keeper and trickling over the line.
Would going in one-down knock Flint’s confidence? Not a bit of it, they came out for the second half and took it to the hosts.
And on 59 minutes it was 2-2, Jennifer Haynes releasing Rosie Hughes to finish smartly and notch her fifth goal in four games.
On 61 minutes Redfern came on for Evie Chard, a move that would ultimately decide the match.
After that it was anyone’s game and 2-2 would have been a fair result, but Nomare are not top of the table for nothing.
And in the 95th minute, Redfern’s looping effort from an uncleared corner won the match.
This match was abandoned in the second half due to an injury suffered by referee Robin Williams.
Llandudno were ahead through a first half Maddie Williams goal, but the game will now have to be replayed.
Next weekend will see Tudno host leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads at Maesdu Park. It will be the fourth meeting of the teams already this season, with Nomads leading by two wins to one.
Wrexham slumped to their fifth defeat in eight Adran Premier matches this season.
Second-place Saints bagged the points through Lexi Jones’ goal in first half stoppage time.
Four goals from Beth Roberts took her total for the season to 27 as Henllan went top of the East Division with a seven-goal pasting of the Hall.
Roberts struck on 11, 19, 41 and 82 minutes to make it 22 league goals in just five games and 27 in eight across all competitions.
Lleucu Williams added a double and Mabli Fitzgerald was also on target for the hosts.
All-square at Parc Dwyfor where Llanystumdwy had a fair few chances but came up against a superb goalkeeping display from Luned Williams.
