North Wales Premier League: Harrison Jones one short of 200, Taylor hits best for Brymbo, last ball drama at Northop

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – AUGUST 15

It is starting to look like a two-horse race in the battle to be crowned Premier Division champions.

Just a point separates top pair St Asaph and Brymbo, both of whom recorded big wins on Saturday.

With four matches each remaining, this one could be going right down to the wire.

Premier Division

Brymbo 1st XI (18) 237-5 Mochdre 1st XI (7) 233-10

Chris Taylor scored a North Wales career best 137 as Brymbo reached their winning target in ridiculously quick time at the SSC today.
South African opener Taylor smashed 20 fours and five sixes in his 78-ball whirlwind effort which ensured the title-chasing Steelmen made the 234 required for victory in just 28.5 overs.
Taylor recorded his fourth league century of the summer and is now well past the 1,000 runs mark for the campaign. On Saturday, he shared an opening stand of 193 with Sam Aplin (47).
Mochdre won the toss and elected to bat, chalking up a very decent 233 all out off 48.1 overs, having been 109-6.
Owen Davies finished 52 not out, Alex J Davies added 37, while skipper Adam Campion made 32.
For the hosts, Jack Williams snapped up 3-50, Ryan Collier 2-18 and Aplin 2-30.
Brymbo’s reply was all about that spectacular opening partnership, which took the Steelmen to within 41 runs of victory.

Northop 1st XI (8) 251-7 Bangor 1st XI (18) 252-6

What a game at Flint Road!
Northop needed eight to win off the last ball, hit a six and ended up losers by a single run.
Nathaniel Scott made 93, Francois Mostert 60 and skipper Rob Marshall 43 as Bangor posted 252-6 off 50 overs after opting to bat. Elliot Colclough pouched 3-46 for the hosts.

The home side got so close, but could not quite make the 253 required for a win.
Opener Colclough hit a marvellous 128 not out, cracking 15 fours and two sixes, Matthew Williams adding 30, Smit Parekh 2-34 and Daniel Flynn 2-60 for the winning visitors.

Denbigh 1st XI (18) 359-5 Hawarden Park 1st XI (7) 263-8

Skipper Harrison Jones made the second highest score of his career, a tremendous 199 not out playing a major part in Denbigh’s victory at Ystrad Road.
Jones could not quite match the 203 he hit against Dolgellau in 2022, but it was still a mighty effort against Hawarden Park, the captain’s wonder knock coming off 161 deliveries and including 21 boundaries and eight maximums.
It helped Denbigh post a huge total of 359-5 off 50 overs, Andy Clarke adding 53 and Shaun Nash 38. Jones put on 132 with Clarke and added 128 alongside Nash.
Evan Shaw gathered 2-39 off 10 overs for Park.
The visiting reply yielded an impressive 263-8, Phil Bradfield 53, Shaw 40, Campbell Marr 36 and Jacob Duker 32, with extras totalling 46.
Nash claimed 3-37 and Joe Lewis 2-57 for Denbigh, who won by 96 runs.

Gwersyllt Park 1st XI (4) 195-9 Menai Bridge 1st XI (18) 198-2

Jack Gower and Dion Holden both made big scores in guiding third-place Menai Bridge to an eight-wicket triumph at Gwersyllt Park.
Deciding to bat after winning the toss, Park were limited to 195-9 off 50 overs, skipper Jamie Griffiths topping the chart with 65, while Alfie Lythgoe added 31 down the order.
Ayush Verma returned excellent figures of 3-15 off 10 overs for the islanders, Matthew Jones bagging 2-38 and Gethin Roberts 2-48.
In response, Gower made 81 not out and Holden was unbeaten on 69 as Bridge reached 198-2 off 27, that pair forming an unbroken partnership of 143 for the third wicket, Cai Pearson 2-64 for the hosts.

Mold 1st XI (8) 224-10 St Asaph 1st XI (18) 378-8

Ton-scoring heroes Kyle Williams and Mathew Ryan made sure Premier leaders St Asaph amassed an uncatchable total at Chester Road.
Both batsmen are past the 1,000 league runs milestone for 2026.
Williams’ 132 was his fourth century of the summer, while Ryan’s second hundred produced a score of 115 as Asaph piled up a huge 378-8 after being put into bat!
The duo concocted a mammoth 255 stand for the second wicket.
David Graham snared 4-42 and Thomas North 2-77 for the suffering Mold attack.
The Flintshire side were then bowled out for 224, Graham 60, Louis Boulton 55 and Hayden Millington 33. Danny Ryan grabbed 4-42, Will Norman 3-42 and Jack Griffiths 2-21 for the victorious Saints.
