80 goals in just over 100 games – now he’s back at the club where he’s scored half of them

With Asa Thomas, Connor Owen and Marc Evans already in the ranks, CPD Gwalchmai have added yet more firepower to their attack with the re-signing of Kaine Bentley.

The 21-year-old Bentley bagged a sensational 40 goals last season for a Gwalch side which rounded off the campaign by lifting the NWCFA Intermediate Cup.

Bentley was among the scorers in a 3-1 victory over Penrhyndeudraeth in the final, Connor Owen and Marc Evans also on target. The trio netted 87 goals between them over the 2023-24 season.

After starting the current campagn back at Trearddur Bay, where he netted five times in 12 appearances, Bentley has now returned to Maes Meurig.

The youngster began his senior career at Holyhead Town, playing for the reserve side as a 16-year-old in 2019-20, and by 2021-22 he was a first team regular, pocketing 17 goals in his first season.

After just four more games with the Harbourmen in 2022-23, Bentley signed for Trearddur Bay, where he scored 17 times in a North Wales Coast West Division One unbeaten title-winning team.

Then came last season’s phenomenal effort at Gwalchmai, where he netted 40 goals in 33 games, before making that brief return to tier 3 Trearddur this term.

Now it’s back to tier 4 Gwalchmai, where he is sure to receive a hero’s welcome.

As well as his successes at club level, Bentley was also in the Ynys Mon squad which won silver at the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey. He scored in a 5-1 win over Falkland Islands.

  • Kaine played for Holyhead Town Reserves in 2019-20 and Grassroots North Wales has a record of him scoring just the once. There was no football in 2020-21 due to Covid.
