Prestatyn Town manager Chris Morrell furious after side’s record Welsh Cup defeat

Prestatyn Town manager Chris Morrell pulled no punches after his side’s dismal 9-0 Welsh Cup defeat at Gresford Athletic on Saturday.

It was the Seasiders’ worst loss in the national knockout over 92 ties played since they first entered the competition in 1929/30.

Town fielded a strong, experienced side at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, yet had no answer to the goal power of Gresford.

Morrell said: “Whatever words you can come up with to describe unacceptable, then do so…

“I obviously don’t like it, but I can accept a defeat if we have given our all as we all know the situation from the summer has left us far too short on Tier 2 experience, but to go from the efforts of the past few weeks to what we saw yesterday was frankly an insult and something I can’t accept.

“As staff, we prepared the team properly on and off the pitch. As an organisation we provide the opportunity to play for this great club. As supporters, you give us backing when it’s deserved but too many of yesterday’s group need to have a long look at what they want to give back…

“We don’t give up at this club, as the minimum expected is maximum effort, which fell way below yesterday.”

  • Prestatyn Town return to JD Cymru North action at home to Flint Mountain this Friday, September 27.
