Henllan’s new women’s football team need few more experienced players

A women’s football team set to play in a senior league for the first time are on the lookout for a few more experienced players.

CPDM Henllan, based near Denbigh, will compete in the North Wales Women’s Football League East this season.

The squad has great foundations and background, with a number of players having been part of a very successful youth and junior section in recent years.

CPD Genod Henllan reached the 2022-23 FAW Under-16 Welsh Girls Cup semi-finals and won a number of area league and cup competitions.

Now they are committed to giving women’s football a try in 2024-25.

Gerwyn Jones is the manager of the team, who hope to play at nearby Llannefydd in their opening league game against neighbours Denbigh Town on September 15.

Henllan will play some games at Top Park in the village and others on the 3G at Ysgol Glan Clwyd. However, a definite match venues plan is still to be finalised.

Local football legend Cled Pierce, whose daughter Magi captained the under-16s, said the women’s squad has several talented youngsters, but would benefit from the addition of two or three more experienced heads who may not be getting enough game time with their current clubs.
