NWCFA Women’s Challenge Cup: Club record for Llangefni’s Jess, Pwllheli, Bangor & Llandudno victorious

NWCFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP ROUND ONE
CPDM Bangor 3 CPDM Llanystumdwy 0
Two first-half goals from 17-year-old Cerys Macdonald put the home side on the path to victory at Bangor City Stadium.
Substitute Cadi Jones, also 17, added a third for Bangor, for whom experienced duo Carol Lewis and Ashleigh Jones had impressive debuts.
Coach Aron Griffith said: “Best way we could have kicked off our 24/25 season was with a win. “Personally I thought we put on a dominant performance from start to finish, created 20+ chances on goal and were very strong moving the ball around.
“A tough pre season and intense training sessions have set us up for the best possible chance to do well this season, I think the players deserve that.
“Very tough match next in the quarter final versus a strong Llangefni side, we’ll need to be fully focused on the task in hand to try and reach the semi finals.”

Both Lewis and Ashleigh Jones were solid on the ball and read the game well.
One of two-goal star Macdonald’s net-finders was a 25-yard beauty.

In their first game under new manager Billy Fuller, Tudno were 3-0 up at the break, Maddie Williams netting twice before Dutton bagged her opener.
Erin Doran, Angharad Jones and Sioned Phillips provided the assists.
Kinmel Bay, who interestingly featured former top-class goalkeeper with NFA, Katie Spruce, as an outfield player, fought back well in the second half and cut the arrears on 53 minutes when last term’s leading markswoman Seren Williams found the net.
Maddie Williams soon set up Dutton for her second and on 69 minutes Phillips gave the assist for Rebecca Jarvis-Evans to make it 5-1.
Dutton made it a personal treble on 89 minutes, Doran the assister. Dutton last netted a hat-trick for Llandudno in a 3-0 win at Y Felinheli in 2022-23.

Trearddur Bay 0 CPD Pwllheli 5

Five on the road in an impressive performance from last season’s overall North Wales Women’s League champions Pwllheli.
The visitors struck on four minutes when Katie Bowe’s volley into the box ended up with new signing Ann Williams heading home.
Bowe then truly launched her season in typical style with a 20-yard special in the 36th minute.
Magi Hughes made it three on 50 minutes, drilling firmly into the bottom corner following a flag kick.
Last season’s scoring sensation, Jini Owen Hughes, got off the mark for 2024-25 in the 55th minute when she finished off a Lois Thomas cross.
Charley Davies headed in a Magi Hughes corner on the hour to complete the scoring.
Trearddur Bay put a great effort in and not all of their opponents this season will be as strong as Pwllheli.
