FAW Trophy northern qualifying round – reports on 33 ties featuring a total 152 goals

FAW AMATEUR TROPHY QUALIFYING ROUND NORTHERN
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 9 Llysfaen 1

For the second weekend running Rhyl 1879 rattled up nine goals in a national cup tie at Belle Vue.
Saturday saw Gareth Thomas’s Ardal North West side notch just one below double figures at the expense of tier 5 underdogs Llysfaen.
Jonny Taylor, Tom Kemp and Callum Parry all scored two apiece for the Lilywhites, while there was one each for Jonny Bravo Pinto, Danny Clarke and Sam Ashton, with Lee Fallas replying for the North Wales Coast East Division one visitors.
CPD Caerwys 0 Llandyrnog United 1
Two teams in danger of not beginning the season due to neither having a manager, but who sorted out their problem in time, shared a close fought Trophy tie at Lon-yr-Ysgol.
Caerwys started well and should have been ahead inside five minutes but a number of chances went begging.
Dyrny’s first attack on seven minutes resulted in a cross from the right wing which found Nathan Rose, who was unmarked and his shot was too powerful for Liam Grafton to keep out.
Caerwys got back into the game but missed several opportunities, the best falling to Lewis Harrison and Julian Watson, both heading wide of the target.
The second half didn’t produce much goalmouth action as both teams lacked ideas going forward.
Caerwys were restricted to several long range efforts, the best from Ollie Clowes-Halliday whose 20 yarder was tipped over by Alfie McKay.
Sub Joe Jones thought he had equalised in the dying seconds but the ref ruled he fouled the keeper in a 50-50 challenge.
A disappointing result for Caerwys whose day was made worse when manager Andrew Gilsenan was shown a straight red for alleged verbal abuse on the hour.
Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 2 Bethesda Athletic 3
Noa Hughes bagged a winner three minutes into injury-time for Bethesda.
Tier 5 underdogs Blaenau had led twice through Sion Roberts and Jack Diamond, only for Osian Hughes and Noa Hughes to level for Athletic each time.
Brickfield Rangers 7 CPD Henllan 1
Josh Jones gave rank outsiders Henllan a shock lead at tier 3 Brickfield, but the Wrexham side recovered to win handsomely, producing five second-half goals.
Andy Vale pocketed a hat-trick, 17-year-old sub Jake Barlow added a double and there were singles from Lewis Clamp and Leroy Ngema-Stamp.
CPD Bro Cernyw 1 Bow 7
Loui O’Carroll delivered a treble for relentless Bow whose other goals came from Barry Roche, Kyle Robb and Greg Hall, plus a Colin Roberts OG.
Roche also missed a penalty for the visitors, sub Gethin Vaughan with a consolation for Cernyw.
Cefn Albion 2 St Asaph City 1

One of the most attractive looking ties of the day between two quality tier 3 sides ended in a home triumph for Cefn.
Captain Jordan Williams and Tom Smith netted in the first half to give the Wrexham-area side a two-goal interval lead.
Josh Roberts replied for Saints on 68 minutes but that was not enough to save them from elimination.
Connah’s Quay Town 5 Greenfield 1
Four goals from Sam Reynolds and a Matthew Bennett OG sent Town soaring into the next round.
The only disappointment for the hosts will be that they did not score more. Sam Edwards nabbed a late consolation for Greenfield.
Conwy Borough 3 Llandudno Swifts 1

Isaac Carey (2) and Cian Evans were on target for nine-man Conwy in this expected victory over tier 5 newcomers Swifts.
Frank Montgomery responded for the visitors in the second half.
Lewis McMillan was shown a straight red for the home side on 53 minutes and captain Carey saw a second yellow after 59.
Deeside Dragons 2 Rhuddlan Town 2 (Rhuddlan won 5-4 on pens)
Rhuddlan squeezed through on penalties against tier 5 new faces Dragons on a very difficult pitch.
Ryan Gordon handed the far more experienced tier 4 visitors a 16th minute lead, but Lewis Paynter equalised on the half hour.
Isaac Hall restored the away advantage with 69 on the clock, but an 87th minute leveller from sub Max Boden forced a shoot-out, which Town won 5-4.
Adam Lawrence was shown red for Dragons, while Sean Mills-Morgan received two yellows for the visitors.
CPD Y Felinheli 2 Llanuwchllyn 3

Goal king Meilir Williams (2) and Tomos Evans shared the goals which ensured Llanuwchllyn advanced in a close-fought tie.
Iwan Owen and Elis Williams hit back for Felin in this all-tier 3 tie.
CPD Gaerwen 1 CPD Llanberis 2
Welsh Cup giant-killers Gaerwen didn’t quite repeat the magic in the Trophy – but they gave it a really goofd go.
Caio Thomas and Marvin Pritchard came up with the goals that won the day for Llanberis, Huw Evans registering for the home side.
CPD Gronant 2 Rhyl Albion 1
Adam Woosey’s 87th minute strike won a close fought tie for Gronant against tier 5 battlers Albion.
Kallum Pierce put Gronant ahead with an early penalty, but Kyle Lally equalised in first half injury time for the visitors.
Gwalchmai 3 CPD Penrhyndeudraeth 2
A repeat of last season’s NWCFA Intermediate Cup Final produced the same outcome – a Gwalchmai win.
The only difference with Saturday’s Trophy clash was that Gwalch won 3-2, as opposed to 3-1 in May’s final at Bangor City Stadium.
Marc Evans popped up with an 88th minute decider for the hosts, Gethin Jones and Darren Roberts having earlier found the net.
Gwion Davies and Cian Pritchard replied for Penrhyn.
Holyhead Town 1 Pentraeth 2
Town led 1-0 at half time through a fourth-minute Mike Jones goal, but Pentraeth rallied to win in the second period, Kian Abbott levelling on 56 and Macauley Lewis providing the winner after 77.
Holywell United 0 Coedpoeth United 3
Curtis Griffiths, Adam Lloyd and sub Marcus Roberts were all on the mark in a comfortable win for Coedpieth.
Llanfairfechan Town 5 CPD Mountain Rangers 2

Llangoed and District 3 Valley Seniors 0

Wayne Thomas struck twice in the first half before Muhammad Shuaib put away a 93rd minute third goal for the victorious Puffins.
Llangollen Town 1 CPD Y Glannau 0
Jack Hanley’s 35th minute goal proved enough to separate the sides as tier 3 Llangollen edged past a hard-working tier 4 visiting side in Y Glannau.
CPD Llannefydd 8 Prestatyn Sports 0
Sam Jones (2), Jack Gronow (2), Emyr Williams, Mathew Jones, Llion Morris and Rhydian Williams all made the scoresheet in a big win for Llannefydd.
Llanrug United 2 CPD Nefyn United 2 (Llanrug won 4-2 on pens)
A closely-contested all tier 4 battle saw Llanrug emerge as victors on penalties.
Ifan Gwilym Jones gave Nefyn an early lead from the spot, Alan Owen equalised on 34 minutes and a Kevin Lloyd spot-kick made it 2-1 Llanrug after 48.
Tomi Evans’ 80th minute leveller forced a shoot-out which Llanrug won.
Mochdre Sports 1 Bontnewydd 1 (Mochdre won 5-4 on pens)
Niall Owen put Sports one-up with 17 gone, but sub Steffan Bulkeley necessitated penalties with an 83rd minute equaliser.
And it was the home side who scraped through on spot-kicks.
Owen Williams saw red for Mochdre after 78.
Mynydd Isa 1 Meliden 1 (Mynydd won 5-4 on pens)
Penalties were also needed to settle the argument at Argoed, Mynydd Isa of the North East Wales League Premier ending up celebrating after the final kick.
The game itself ended 1-1, Dylan Roberts scoring first for Isa on two minutes from a Jack Aitken assist, Kai Wallis making it all-square on the half-hour.
Nantlle Vale 5 Amlwch Town 1
Harri Hughes and Cian Dafydd scored two apiece for Nantlle, Rob Daniels adding a late fifth, while veteran Owen Rowlands replied for the visitors.
Penmaenmawr Phoenix 8 Llanfairpwll 1
Daniel Williams (4), Harley Crossfield (2), Ben Jarvis and Peter Williams shared an eight-goal salvo for Phoenix, sub Joshua Roberts at least ensuring Llanfairpwll had something to show for their otherwise painful trip by finding the net.
FC Queen’s Park 2 Rhydymwyn 2 (Queen’s Park won 5-4 on pens)
The Park needed pens to see off the challenge of lower-tier visitors Rhydymwyn.
Josh Venables gave the Wrexham side an 18th minute lead, but Karl Bacon responded on the half-hour and Kyle Wilkes struck to hand Rhyd a half-time advantage.
Sub Sean Price put the hosts back on terms with 72 on the clock and it finished in a shoot-out which the Park edged 5-4.
Rhos United 1 Llanrwst United 2
Two added time goals put Llanrwst into the next round and broke underdogs Rhos’ hearts.
The Tier 5 hosts, beaten 4-0 by the Rwsters in the Welsh Cup seven days earlier, were a different proposition second time around.
After a goalless first half at Brookfield Drive, Richard Beardmore put Rhos in front on 51 and it stayed 1-0 until the 91st minute, when Matt Mullender equalised for the tier 3 visitors.
Then a minute later, a Julian Williams penalty sealed it for the Conwy Valley visitors.
Rhostyllen 1 Lex XI 2
Craig Griffiths plundered a dramatic winner for Lex in the 99th minute of play.

Talysarn Celts 1 Holyhead Hotspur 4

Cai Edwards was the sole marksman for Talysarn.
Trearddur Bay 5 Caergybi 0
Asa Thomas pocketed his first – but surely not his last – hat-trick of the season for Trearddur Bay in this island derby at Lon Isallt.
The 33-year-old came on as a second-half substitute and netted on 52, 76 and 88 minutes to raise his record career goals tally to 722.
Matty Jones and Sean McCaffery were on target in the first half for Trearddur.
Llandudno Amateurs 2 Pwllheli 4
Ashley Ainsworth was a hat-trick star for Pwllheli in Friday’s Trophy success at The Oval.
Steffan Toplis also scored for the visitors, Ryan Boddis and captain Joe Jones (penalty) keeping Amateurs in the contest.
