Draws for the JD Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy opening rounds coming up tomorrow

Tomorrow (Thursday, July 4) brings the first qualifying round draws for the 2024-25 JD Welsh Cup and Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy.

The draws will be streamed at 8pm on RedWall+ which is available on the FAW website.

JD Welsh Cup

The JD Welsh Cup first qualifying round will be played across the weekend of 26-27 July.
Clubs from the third tier of Welsh football and below enter the competition in the first qualifying round – with the exception of three Ardal Leagues clubs (Abertillery Bluebirds, Pontardawe Town and Porthmadog) who receive a bye to the second qualifying round based on their 2023/24 final league positions.
The eight JD Cymru North clubs and eight JD Cymru South clubs who finished lowest in 2023/24 enter this season’s JD Welsh Cup in round one, while the eight JD Cymru North clubs and eight JD Cymru South clubs who finished highest in 2023/24 enter in round two alongside the 12 JD Cymru Premier clubs.
The JD Welsh Cup first qualifying round draw is split into the Northern section and Southern section.
The 106 clubs in the Northern section have been randomly split into two separate pots – one made up of 52 clubs and another made up of 54 clubs. Clubs will be drawn against another club in the same pot as them.
Meanwhile, the 112 clubs in the Southern section have been randomly split into two separate pots of 56 clubs each. Clubs will be drawn against another club in the same pot as them.

Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy

244 clubs are set to find out their opponents in the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy first qualifying round draw. on Thursday.
Ties will be played across the weekend of 2-3 August.
As per the competition rules, the four semi-finalists from the previous season’s Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy should be granted a bye to the first round.
However, as Penrhyncoch, Trethomas Bluebirds and cup holders Newport City are not eligible for this season’s competition due to promotion to the JD Cymru Leagues, this rule only applies to Cefn Cribwr.
In addition, five clubs are granted byes to the first round as a result of their final league positions in 2023/24: Abertillery Bluebirds, Chirk AAA, Llanidloes Town, Pontardawe Town, Porthmadog.
The first qualifying round of the Dragon Signs Amateur Trophy is split into six sections: North East, North West, Central, South East, South West, South Central.
