NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE WEST – FEBRUARY 11

Amlwch Town 2 (E Jones 12 & 70)
CPD Pwllheli 5 (J Owen Hughes 8 & 34 pen, L Thomas 21, B Roberts 60 & 65)

Two goals apiece from Jini Owen Hughes and Bess Roberts guided Pwllheli to a seventh straight win which put them six points clear at the West league summit.

Seventeen-year-old Hughes made it 10 goals in her last six games, including four doubles, while Roberts’ pair made it five for her this season.

Amlwch replied with two goals from their 19-year-old talent Ellie Sian Jones, who is up to nine for the campaign.

Despite the scoreline, Amlwch put up a great effort against the league leaders, never giving up at any stage of the contest.

Pwllheli broke the deadlock on eight minutes when Stacey Sansome’s neat through ball set up Hughes for the opener.

Four minutes later it was 1-1, evergreen veteran Meinir Thomas providing the assist for Jones to level it.

Hughes turned goal-helper when her cross from the left enabled Lois Thomas at the back post to knock in her 10th of the season for Pwllheli after 21.

In the 34th minute, Katie Bowe, making her first start since October 2022, looked set to score, but was brought down in the box. Hughes converted from the spot to make it 3-1 at half time.

On the hour, Pwllheli added a fourth when a Hughes corner was attacked at the near post by Bess Roberts, who headed home.

Three minutes later, Roberts nodded in another corner for 5-1.

Amlwch kept trying and pulled one back when Jones bagged her second of the day on 70 minutes.
