Three second-half goals get Flint off to a winning start

Flint Town United ladies started the 2023-24 season in an identical fashion to which they began 2022-23 – with a 3-0 win

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

Flint Town United 3 (Crockett 67, R Hughes 75, K Williams 82)
Kinmel Bay 0

Almost 12 months ago Flint won their first-ever league game 3-0 and they repeated the act in the opening match of 2023-24 as they eventually saw off a hard-working Kinmel Bay at the Essity.

While the Silkwomen controlled possession in the first half, they were not penetrative enough in attacking areas.

After the break, the hosts raised their game and took a 67th minute lead through substitute and debutant Tegan Crockett.

In the 75th minute, Rosie Hughes showed typical dazzling skill to take on defenders and apply a smooth finish.

And the points were sealed when sub Kaelyn Williams added a third with 82 gone.

Good to see Kinmel Bay back in the league and they performed really well, with the industrious Seren Williams standing out.

After the game, Flint manager Elliott Hale said: “In the first half we looked good in possession going forward, causing problems, but were just not clinical enough in the final third despite having a lot of the ball.

“Second half we stepped up a gear and started to get at them, also out of possession looking a lot more relaxed and in control. We made a change for Jennifer Haynes replacing her with new signing Tegan Crockett, who shortly scored from a set piece, putting us 1-0 up.

“That did really get us going and back on the front foot after a few little slow spells of play. It really kicked us on and Rosie Hughes went past four players, going one-on-one with the keeper and slotting home nicely.

“Daisy Hughes was replaced by Kaelyn Williams, who always is a impact player and scored minutes after coming on to finish the game off. Credit to Kinmel Bay, who made us work for the three points.
“As always, a massive thank you to the fans.”
