Report from CPD Merched Bangor

Coach Aron Griffith believes his Bangor side were unfortunate to end up pointless from their coast derby against Rhyl 1879 on Sunday.

Sade Benjamin scored the only goal of the game after 18 minutes when she latched onto Rachael Thomas’ through ball and fired past the keeper.

Captain Thomas hit the bar for the Lilywhites in the second half. The hosts had their chances too, but failed to take them.

Griffith believes that was the main difference on the day.

“We were unfortunate not to get something today,” he said. “I thought we played extremely well and we created a lot of chances in the second half .

“I’m 100% happy with how we played and we can build on that now for our next match, but it shows when you take your chance to score and hit the back of the net, you will be rewarded – and that’s what Rhyl did.

“All the best to Rhyl for the rest of their games and looking forward to visiting Belle Vue for the return match.”

The match was preceded by a musical performance from The Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh with The Goat Major and LCpl Shenkin IV, the Regimental Mascot in attendance.

Coach Griffith added: “Massive thank you to the 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh, The Regimental Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh and LCpl Shenkin for the opening ceremony at our Adran North debut. It was a thing of beauty, hopefully we can host you all again.

“Diolch i 3ydd Bataliwn Y Cymry Brenhinol am gefnogi CPD Merched Bangor yn eu gêm gyntaf tymor agoriadol yn Stadiwm Nantporth.

“Perfformiad arddechog gan Y Band Catrodol a Chorfflu Drymiau Y Cymry Brenhinol.

“Bydd LCpl Shenkin IV yno hefyd yn wneud Frindiau gyda’r cefnogwr pel-droed.

“What a performance by The Regimental Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh, and LCpl Shenkin IV was a hit with the spectators too.”
