Wonderful news for North Wales cricket!

Both Brymbo and Colwyn Bay stormed into the Welsh Cricket Cup semi-finals this afternoon.

Brymbo made the long journey to Carmarthenshire and thrashed Ammanford by eight wickets, while the Bay hammered Cowbridge by 204 runs at Penrhyn Avenue

The North Wales pair join Cardiff and Swansea in the last four.

Three-time Welsh Cup winners Brymbo reached the 2023 semi-finals in glorious fashion.

The North Wales League Premier Division high-flyers, who lifted the national trophy in 1987, 1988 and 1992, were far too good for their South Wales Premier League Division One opponents at Tir-Y-Dail Lane.

Brymbo won the toss and chose to field, limiting their hosts to just 133-8 off their reduced allocation of 35 overs, Ammanford having been 67-0 at one stage.

Mohamed Nilam Jayman starred for the Steelmen with a magnificent 4-18 off seven overs, Joseph Norman, Connor Davies and James Claybrook claiming a victim apiece, opener Kurtis Marsh best for the Carmarthenshire team with 40.

Brymbo’s reply included a tremendous opening stand of 82 between Christopher Taylor (57 not out) and Claybrook (25).

Jayman added 21 as the Wrexham-area heroes made it to 134-2 in 29.3 overs.

COLWYN BAY 291-5 (40) COWBRIDGE 87-10 (26.3)

Will Evans produced one of those special performances he has become known for as his century helped Colwyn Bay to a crushing home win over visitors Cowbridge.

The 2015 cup winners Bay joined fellow North Walians Brymbo in the last four with a dominant display against their South Wales Premier League Division Two opponents.

Bay batted first and amassed a huge 291-5 off 40 overs, left-hand wizard Evans cracking 105, while Will Higginson added 63 not out and skipper George Johansen 56.

In reply, Cowbridge were blown away for 87 with Jack Parry taking five wickets.
